A Lunar New Year festival with ice shows and fireworks is coming to Toronto

30 January 20263 Mins Read

Toronto’s getting a spectacular Lunar New Year celebration filled with festive activities and a stunning fireworks display to wrap it all up. Here’s what to know about the Toronto Spring Festival.

The Toronto Spring Festival, which organizers call a “vibrant celebration of cultural diversity”, takes place on Feb. 14 and 15, 2026. The weekend will showcase traditional customs with a blend of modern festivities.

In Chinese zodiac tradition, the Horse represents strength, energy, and ambition. This year, the Lunar New Year falls on Feb. 17, and celebrations continue for 16 days.

“As we leave behind the introspective and intuitive Year of the Snake, the Year of the Horse gallops in with vibrant and fiery energy, symbolizing adventure, vitality, and momentum,” shares Chinese New Year in its latest guide.

What to expect

Think of this festival as one of the best Lunar New Year celebrations in the city. It’ll be filled with immersive experiences, live performances, and interactive workshops that complement the occasion and celebrate various cultural traditions.

“The Lunar New Year represents a time of renewal and hope, marking the beginning of a new cycle, where families come together to honour traditions and express wishes for prosperity and good fortune,” shares organizers.

According to the schedule, attendees can catch a thrilling ice show, group workout and culture experience, variety shows, and on the final night, a breathtaking firework display.

“The primary goal of the Toronto Spring Festival Fireworks Celebration is to enhance community engagement by inviting diverse populations to participate in a shared cultural experience, promoting understanding and appreciation of Chinese traditions while celebrating the Lunar New Year in a festive and inclusive environment,” adds organizers.

The Toronto Spring Festival is just one of the many celebrations occurring in Toronto throughout the month of February.

Toronto’s Chinatown will host its own Lunar New Year celebration on Feb. 21 and 22, 2026. There’s also a five-day art, culture and luxury pop-up taking place at Cry Baby Gallery. It’s starting Feb. 17, 2026, hosted by the Hong Kong Tourism Board.

It’s about to be a busy month in the city, and we’re loving it!
