A popular Edmonton park is soon transforming for its first-ever outdoor musical experience

22 June 20263 Mins Read

The Edmonton Pops Orchestra is back to present an outdoor musical experience like no other.

If you aren’t familiar with the group, the Edmonton Pops Orchestra works to combine music, dance, and storytelling to create dynamic and intimate concert experiences for folks across Edmonton. This summer, they’re bringing Something Rotten!, a musical comedy, to Hawrelak Park to kick off things with a bang.

You won’t find any other event like this in the city. So, I’d recommend rushing to see anything the Pops Orchestra has to offer this season. Not to mention, this is the first musical that will be taking over the newly renovated Hawrelak Park. Don’t you want to see what these renovations have in store?

What’s the show like?

Something Rotten! is the outrageous Broadway smash hit that asks the ultimate question: what if Shakespeare had competition? Get taken back to the English Renaissance, with this wildly funny musical following two brothers as they struggle to write a hit play in the shadow of a certain rock-star playwright.

With showstopping numbers, theatrical jokes, and references to the past that will have you cackling, Something Rotten! is brilliantly clever and undeniably entertaining.

You can join the Edmonton Pops Orchestra cast this summer for a production that’s as clever as it is contagious. You can expect a brilliant cast, dazzling choreography, and a setting in the beautiful Edmonton River Valley that makes every moment feel like magic. Something Rotten! is the must-see event of the season; it’s bold, hilarious, and guaranteed to leave you grinning and humming all the way home.

Tickets start at $50, with discounts for seniors and free admission for children 12 and under. You’re able to get your tickets now, and I’d recommend checking out as soon as possible; this is going to be a very popular event, especially since it’s outdoors in the summertime.

If you’re looking for more from the Edmonton Pops Orchestra, keep an eye online for the 2026/27 season announcements, which should be coming very soon.

This show will be nothing short of incredible, and I have tickets in the cart myself. Thinking about going? Do it; it’s going to be something unforgettable.

When: Wednesday, July 1, 2026, to Sunday, July 12, 2026
Time: 1:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
Where: Hawrelak Park — 330 Groat Rd. NW, Edmonton, Alta.
Cost: $50
