Netflix’s hit series Outer Banks is back for a fifth and final season.

The drama follows the Pogues, a group of young adventurers seeking legendary treasure, with a generous dose of romance, tragedy and self-discovery along the way.

This time, the gang are heading to Europe as they seek revenge against villain Chandler Groff.

Here’s all you need to know about the Outer Banks filming locations.

What happens in the new season?

Picking up after shocking events at the end of the last series, we see the gang grieving JJ (Rudy Pankow).

The Pogues are set on revenge after JJ was murdered by Chandler Groff (J Anthony Crane), who turned out to be his long lost father, and fled with valuable treasure.

Now they must journey across Europe to track down the legendary Blue Crown, an ancient relic that is thought to have the power to bring back the dead.

Where was Outer Banks season 5 filmed?

The first two episodes of the final season sees the gang travel from Morocco to Croatia via Spain.

After their European adventure, the gang head back stateside and to the fictional town of Kildare Island, an amalgamation of locations throughout the Carolinas.

Surprisingly, the series doesn’t actually use any real-life locations on the Outer Banks, the string of islands that the show is set in and named after, located in North Carolina, USA.

The Croatian city of Dubrovnik is at the heart of the treasure hunt

The season opens with a cat-and-mouse chase throughout Europe as the Pogues track down Groff and the stolen treasure.

With its medieval walls, stone buildings, churches and narrow streets, the historic city of Dubrovnik in Croatia gave a noticeably different feel to Outer Banks.

The city has previously appeared on screen, most notably doubling as King’s Landing in fantasy epic Game of Thrones.

For Outer Banks, filming took place across several of Dubrovnik’s best-known landmarks, including Stradum, the pedestrianised main street that runs through the Old Town district.

Other Dubrovnik filming locations included Luža Square, Sponza Palace and the Jesuit Staircase.

Charleston, South Carolina is the home of The Pogues

Charleston remains the heart of Outer Banks, with the historic South Carolina city once again providing the main backdrop to the series with its streets, distinctive architecture and waterfronts featuring throughout.

Locations in the final season include Big John’s Tavern, and Anson Street right in the middle of downtown Charleston.

Super fans of the series can even take a 90-minute boat tour, operated by Charleston Outdoor Adventures, taking in filming locations like John B’s house, the Morris Island Lighthouse, Folly’s boneyard beach, and Block Island Creek.

Outer Banks season 4 locations

Scenes filmed at the local 7-Eleven store in the opening episode of season four were actually shot at Crosby’s Fish & Shrimp Company in Charleston.

The Enduro race scenes were filmed at two different sites, with Kure Beach in North Carolina used for the beach segment, and Copperhead Ranch in Rocky Point, North Carolina used for the woodland section.

Blackstone Manor is the stately home of Wes Genrette, with Charleston property Sandfly Bluff used for exterior shots. Interior scenes were filmed at Admiral’s House in North Charleston.

Episode three includes a scene where JJ and Kiera jump off a pier, with Crystal Pier on Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina serving as the real-life location.

The Rockfish Bar in episode two is the Bowens Island Restaurant, located in Charleston.

Episode five’s scenes in the church cemetery were filmed at Charleston’s Circular Congregational Church, with interior scenes filmed at the nearby Unitarian Church.

Outer Banks season 3 locations

While South Carolina features strongly again, season three also filmed at the tropical surrounds of Barbados. Locations used include Cove Spring House, a rent-able seaside mansion that’s used as the Cameron’s holiday home, while the white sands of Bathsheba Beach on the island’s east coast stand in for the Pogues’ idyllic refuge.
