All the free outdoor movie nights you can catch in Metro Vancouver this summer

There are plenty of fun activities in Metro Vancouver to take advantage of this summer, and outdoor movies are one of our favourites.

Whether you’re looking for comedy, action, or a thriller, you’re sure to find something to watch in several cities in the Lower Mainland. So grab a blanket, popcorn, and some friends to join you.

Here’s a checklist of the recurring events where you can watch outdoor movies this summer. We’ll update it as more are announced!

What: Outdoor movies in Stanley Park are back this summer, and you can even help pick one of the films to watch under the stars.

Fresh Air Cinema and Evo Car Share have unveiled the lineup for the 2026 edition of the Evo Summer Cinema Series, returning to the Grand Lawn at Ceperley Meadows near Second Beach.

Thousands of people will gather every Tuesday from July 14 to Sept. 1 for Canada’s largest outdoor movie series. You can watch a curated lineup of Hollywood hits and family favourites on the giant 40-foot inflatable movie screen.

When: Every Tuesday from July 14 to Sept. 1, 2026
Time: Screenings begin at sunset
Where: Ceperley Meadows beside the Second Beach pool — 8501 Stanley Park Dr., Vancouver
Cost: Free

What: A long-running fresh-air film series is returning to Burnaby this summer, and it’s packed with favourites the whole family can enjoy. Highlights in 2026 include A Minecraft Movie at Civic Plaza on Aug. 14, and Zootopia 2 at Confederation Park on Aug. 22.

When: Saturday, Aug. 15 and 23 (Confederation Park), Friday, Aug. 14, 21 and 28, 2026 (Civic Plaza)
Time: 8:15 to 8:30 p.m. start time
Where: Civic Square by Bob Prittie Library – 6100 Willingdon Ave., Burnaby; Confederation Park — 250 Willingdon Ave., Burnaby
Cost: Free

What: Willowbrook Shopping Centre is screening family-favourite movies throughout the summer. Bring a chair and invite the family to the Courtyard to see films like The Garfield Movie, Hoppers, and Madagascar.

When: Every Friday until Aug. 29, 2026
Time: 6 to 8 p.m.
Where: Willowbrook Shopping Centre, 19705 Fraser Hwy., Langley
Cost: Free

What: The Polygon Gallery’s Deckchair Cinema returns starting on Thursday, June 25, on Lower Lonsdale’s waterfront deck.

Hosted in partnership with presenting sponsor Rogers Communications and supporting sponsor Mubi, the open-air film series will feature music and entertainment, food and drinks, and more.

Admission to the fifth annual series of outdoor movies is by donation, courtesy of BMO Financial Group, and includes entrance to access Polygon Gallery’s summer exhibition Greg Girard, Simranpreeet Anand: Living with the Eternal, and James Harry: Eye of the Ancestor.

When: Every Thursday until Aug. 27, 2026
Time: Music and concession open at 7 p.m., screenings begin at sundown
Where: 101 Carrie Cates Crt., North Vancouver
Cost: By donation

What: As part of the Focus Movie Action Plan, the City of Surrey is hosting three outdoor movie nights in Surrey this summer.

Pull up a blanket or chair and watch How to Train Your Dragon on Aug. 10 at T.E. Scott Park, Inside Out on Aug. 12 at Chimney Heights Park, and Frozen on Aug. 19 at Unwin Park.

Time: 
Pre-film activities begin at 6 p.m., movie begins at 9 p.m.

 Various parks in Surrey
Cost: Free

What: Port Coquitlam is transforming Evergreen Park and Gates Park into outdoor theatres in July, August and September. Bring the family to enjoy all-ages faves like Mamma Mia! and Night at the Museum on a giant silver screen.

When: July 18 and 25, Aug. 8 and 22, Sept. 5, 2026
Time: 9:15 p.m. (July screenings), 8:45 p.m. (August screenings), 8 p.m. (September screening)
Where: Evergreen Park and Gates Park, Port Coquitlam
Cost: Free

What: Every Thursday evening from July 16 to Aug. 13, Downtown Van will inflate a large 33-foot screen in šxʷƛ̓ənəq Xwtl’e7énḵ Square at the north plaza of the Vancouver Art Gallery for the family-friendly Summer Movie Nights.

This summertime tradition will see a massive crowd of moviegoers watch their favourite flicks under the stars. Activities start at 5 p.m., so there will be plenty of fun before the screening starts.

When: Every week from Thursday, July 16 to Thursday, Aug. 13, 2026
Time: Activations start at 5 p.m.; movies start at dusk
Where: šxʷƛ̓ənəq Xwtl’e7énḵ Square – 850 W. Georgia St., Vancouver
Cost: Free

What: Drive-In Movie Nights at Lansdowne Centre, presented by the shopping mall and Fresh Air Cinema, takes place every Wednesday from July 22 until Sept. 2.

The movie screenings take place in the parking lot of Lansdowne Centre, and viewings are free this summer. Each week spotlights a different film theme, and viewers can vote on which one they would like to enjoy.

When: Every Wednesday from July 22 to Sept. 2, 2026
Time: The film starts at sunset
Where: Lansdowne Centre — 5300 Number 3 Rd., Richmond
Cost: Free

What: Movie nights are some of the best times we get to spend with family, and this summer, you can enjoy some of your favourites outdoors on the North Shore for free.

The City of North Vancouver is bringing back Sunset Cinema for several dates, including Lilo & Stitch on July 24 at Civic Plaza, How to Train Your Dragon at Ray Perrault Park on Aug. 7, and Zootopia 2 at Heywood Park on Aug. 14.

Where: Various locations in North Vancouver
Cost: Free
