An iconic amusement park near Calgary reopens for the season this spring

22 April 20264 Mins Read

If you grew up around Calgary, you know it officially starts to feel like spring when Calaway Park opens back up again. It’s basically the city’s unofficial sign that winter is finally backing off and summer is getting closer.

The park is officially kicking off its 2026 season on May 16,  bringing back rides, games, and all that nostalgic summer energy.

During the spring season, the park will be open only on weekends and holiday Mondays before shifting to full summer daily hours on June 26.

There is something about this park that feels instantly nostalgic, and for many people, it is a full-circle experience coming back year after year. With over 32 family-friendly rides, live entertainment, and classic carnival food, it’s one of those places that feels like a full summer day packed into one spot.

Once you’re inside, there’s a good mix of everything. If you’re into high-thrill rides, there are options like Vortex and Storm, but there are also slower classics like the carousel, train ride, and plenty of family-friendly rides scattered through the park that make it easy to find something for everyone to enjoy.

If you’re stuck deciding which ride to test first, I would highly recommend my personal favourite, the Timber Falls log ride. It starts slowly and feels calm most of the way through, but once you get to the big drop, your adrenaline will start pumping. And just when you think it’s over, you get hit with the perfect splash of cold water that feels amazing on a hot summer day.

Live entertainment is also a big part of the park; throughout the day, you’ll find shows at the Celebration Stage. These shows are short, easy to catch, and are included with admission, so you can stop by whenever you’re walking through.

Plan your visit

Calaway Park will open for the 2026 season on May 16, with spring hours running on weekends and holiday Mondays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

General admission for ages 3 to 49 is $55.95 plus GST, while guests 50 and up are $45.96 plus GST. Children 2 and under are free, and a discounted rate of $39.95 plus GST is available after 2 p.m. for a shorter visit.

If you are thinking about going more than once, season passes are $153.95 for guests ages 3 and up, which can be worth it if this ends up being your go-to summer spot.

One of the best parts about admission is that it covers more than just rides. Your ticket also includes live entertainment, access to the Cinemagic 3D Theatre, the Haunted Hotel, CP Spray n’ Play, and parking.

That said, a few extras like games, mini golf, and food are not included, so things like the Twiz and Twirl Maze, Mulligan’s Island Mini Golf, or any food or merchandise are separate.

Tickets can be purchased online or at the gate, but buying online is the easiest way to secure entry in advance and skip the lineups when you arrive.

There is a reason Calaway Park has remained a Calgary staple for so long. It’s easy, fun, and consistently works for pretty much any kind of summer day. Whether you’re going for the rides, the food, or just a simple day out with friends or family, it’s the kind of spot that keeps making its way into your summer plans year after year.

When: Opens May 16, 2026
Time: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Where: 254033 Range Rd, Calgary, Alta.
Cost: Starting at $55.95
