Assassin’s Creed Shadows final update connects to Black Flag Resynced

16 June 20262 Mins Read

Ubisoft is bringing post-launch support for Assassin’s Creed Shadows to a close with what it describes as the game’s final major update, arriving June 16 on all platforms except Nintendo Switch 2, where it will release at a later date. The update adds a new story chapter, endgame challenges, and additional Animus Hub content, while also setting up a connection to the upcoming release of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced.

The centerpiece of Title Update 1.1.11 is Black Tides, a new story arc that, according to a news release from Ubisoft, serves as the conclusion to the journeys of protagonists Naoe and Yasuke. According to the publisher, the chapter includes roughly two hours of narrative content and ties directly into the story of Edward Kenway, the protagonist of Black Flag Resynced, thus linking the two games.

The update also introduces Domains, a new endgame activity focused on replayability. This consists of five simulations featuring evolving gameplay modifiers designed to test players’ combat skills and character builds. Completing these challenges will unlock new gear, exclusive rewards, and additional secrets.

Players won’t need to own the Claws of Awaji expansion to access Black Tides, but they will need to complete the main campaign as well as the previously released story updates, A Critical Encounter and A Puzzlement.

After 3 hours, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced feels like one of the best remakes ever

Ubisoft’s remake is more than just a wave of nostalgia

Another addition is Horizon, a new Modern-Day Rift. Ubisoft has offered few details about its content, stating that “This newly opened Rift reveals emerging threats. The Eagle will provide more information about the Guide…”

Alongside the update, Ubisoft is expanding the Animus Hub with two new projects, Undertow and Riptides. Both projects include cosmetic rewards inspired by Assassin’s Creed Black Flag, allowing players to unlock themed outfits for Naoe and Yasuke. The crossover content goes beyond that. After Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced launches on July 9, players of that game will be able to unlock outfits inspired by Assassin’s Creed Shadows for Edward Kenway.

While Ubisoft says this is the final major update for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, the developer is showing an interesting approach by positioning the game’s final chapter as a bridge to the next release in the long-running series.
