At New York Comic Con, Prime Video premiered a new trailer for Blade Runner 2099, which will come out next month. The new trailer offers up a deeper look at one of the show’s central mysteries and the relationship between Hunter Schafer’s Cora and Michelle Yeoh’s Olwen.

What did the Blade Runner 2099 New York Comic Con trailer show?

This trailer focuses on the show’s central mystery: what happened to 38 replicants who went missing over the past year? That mystery causes the paths of Cora, who’s a fugitive on the run, and Olwen, a Replicant who’s near death, to cross. Eventually, they’ll uncover a whole conspiracy connected to a criminal gang of replicants who don’t think replicants should feel the need to act human.

Speaking to Polygon in September, showrunner Silka Luisa teased that Blade Runner 2099 is “Chinatown set in the world of Blade Runner. It’s really about Cora and Olwin investigating missing people, just like they do in the films.” Like its predecessors, this new trailer shows that Blade Runner 2099 is shaping up to be a thoughtful sci-fi mystery thriller dealing with existential ideas about AI, humanity, and intimacy.

Prime Video also released a new poster for the series, sporting the tagline, “Welcome to a future we no longer control.” That alludes to the fact that, by 2099, Los Angeles is now dominated by Replicants rather than humans, which we also get a more in-depth look at in this new trailer.

All eight episodes of Blade Runner 2099 will be released on Prime Video on the same day: Nov. 25.

There’s no word on a second season at this time, with Luisa also telling Polygon that these eight episodes are “a complete story within itself.” If you want to catch up on the rest of the franchise before then, Blade Runner: The Final Cut and Blade Runner 2049 are already streaming on Prime Video.
