After nearly a decade in hibernation, StarCraft is (maybe) officially back. In the wake of a new report that Blizzard Entertainment is reviving StarCraft with help from Korean publisher Nexon, there appears to be some actual movement in the real-time strategy sci-fi game series — this time from Blizzard itself. With BlizzCon 2026 just days away, Blizzard fans are digging through clues that might be hinting at a new StarCraft project.
On Thursday, fans discovered secret messages hidden on the official StarCraft website, with clues pointing at a follow-up to StarCraft 2: Legacy of the Void.
The official StarCraft website looks much like it has since the release of 2017’s StarCraft Remastered. But visitors to the site will notice that some of the page’s visuals look… glitchy. It’s an unsettling effect, and doesn’t reveal much about a potential StarCraft 3 or the long-rumored shooter set in the StarCraft universe. But what’s behind the scenes is more interesting.
StarCraft fans have noticed that a handful of cryptic and redacted messages are hidden in the website’s code. Viewing the site’s JavaScript console reveals a handful of messages, some of them encoded in binary and some in plainly visible text.

Two of the messages hint at an unidentified person trying to log into a Terran Dominion server.

Other messages hidden in the StarCraft website’s code make more explicit references to the series lore. There’s mention of a Terran Banshee transport ship, the Terran frontier world of Roxara, and a Dominion Theta Squadron group. The following message also includes a date for one piece of correspondence: the year 2575, which would place the events that Blizzard is teasing about 70 years after the setting of StarCraft 2: Legacy of the Void.

Take the utmost caution when handling the crates. They are pivotal to our research. Any carelessness or mistreatment could jeopardize the success of our operation.

Other messages appear to be more mundane, hinting at tracking unidentified lifeforms and the medical status of two redacted patients. But everything discovered so far only relates to one StarCraft faction, the Terrans.
Blizzard is reportedly developing a StarCraft shooter, with former Far Cry producer Dan Hay — who joined Blizzard in 2022 — leading the project. Blizzard itself revealed in 2024, via a job listing, that it was developing an “open-world shooter game” that has not been announced. If that’s a StarCraft game, we’ll likely know more soon: BlizzCon returns, after a three-year hiatus, on Sept. 12.
The StarCraft franchise debuted in March 1998 with the release of Blizzard’s original sci-fi real-time strategy game. An expansion, StarCraft: Brood War, followed in December. It took Blizzard another 12 years to deliver a sequel, StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty. The sequel received two expansions: 2013’s Heart of the Swarm and 2015’s Legacy of the Void. StarCraft has lain dormant since 2017, when Blizzard released StarCraft: Remastered.
Blizzard has attempted multiple spinoff projects over the years, including the infamous third-person shooter StarCraft: Ghost and a shooter codenamed “Ares.”
