Bruce Willis 'Out-of-This-World' '90s Hit Returns to Theaters for a Limited Time

From Pulp Fiction to The Sixth Sense, Bruce Willis seems to have ruled the 1990s.

There was also The Fifth Element, the cult sci-fi favorite featuring plenty of other big names such as Chris Tucker and the late, great Ian Holm.

And now, nearly 30 years after its official release, the futuristic film is returning to theaters for a brief stint later this month.

“The world needed four stones. Korben Dallas needed a vacation. Relive the adventure when THE FIFTH ELEMENT returns to theatres nationwide July 26 & 27,” reads the caption of a recent Instagram post by Fathom Entertainment. Check out the carousel below.

Here’s the beloved movie’s official synopsis, per Fathom: “Bruce Willis stars as Korben Dallas, a New York cab driver turned unlikely hero, in this timeless story about love and survival set in the 23rd century. In this future world posited by acclaimed director of Lucy and The Professional, humanity has wandered out among the stars, spreading the life-energy of the universe and further agitating the dark force, whose time to strike back occurs only once every 5,000 years, when a doorway between the parallel dimensions briefly opens…”

The synopsis continues, “That time is now, and Zorg (Gary Oldman), the agent of darkness, intends to take advantage of it. Humanity’s hopes may lie with Leeloo (Milla Jovovich), who represents the fifth element, the life force. Leeloo holds unimaginable powers, but she needs help, and Korben befriends her. Nothing less than the future of the universe is in their hands.”

Every Fathom’s Big Screen Classics screening reportedly features an exclusive introduction by cinema critic and historian Leonard Maltin, who will discuss the landmark film’s timeless appeal and offer special insight.

Willis, 71, was also prominent in the ’80s when the Die Hard franchise launched. Interestingly, before he tackled the original film, Willis moonlighted as a singer, and he did it under a different name entirely. Find out more here.
