Clint Black has been on the road this summer for his Back on the Blacktop Tour, but unfortunately, one of his shows got cancelled.
The country star’s team posted on Instagram that Black was admitted to the hospital on Sunday for an emergency surgery to cure infected tonsils, and is on an intravenous antibiotic treatment. Unfortunately, this means that his show, which was originally scheduled at the Pearl River Resort Casino in Mississippi on Friday, has been cancelled.
Thankfully, the 64-year-old singer is set to make a full recovery and is “expected to be discharged from the hospital later this week.” So far, his management has not commented on his concerts scheduled in Nevada and California, which are set to take place from July 9-11.
Black and his management also “sincerely apologize for the inconvenience” the cancellation may have caused. All tickets will be refunded from the point of purchase.

Black kicked off his U.S. tour on May 8 in Minnesota, and has so far visited various cities in Tennessee, Illinois, Florida, Alabama and Georgia. He is also scheduled to tour throughout the summer and fall, making stops in Wyoming, Montana, Oklahoma, Oregon, Washington and Texas, and will revisit various cities in Florida, Illinois and more. Some of his stops on his Back on the Blacktop Tour are book conversations, where he will be promoting his memoir, Killin’ Time: My Life and Music.
“Every night is a World Series game to me. I want to be at my best. I’m striving for excellence. And what it gives me is a chance to entertain people,” Black said on the Takin’ a Walk podcast in May when asked by host Buzz Knight about what live performances mean to him today. “It’s all I’ve ever wanted to do. But doing it on my terms, I’m not running around swinging from ropes and all that. There’s no pyro explosions. It’s really about the music and a little bit about the comedy.”

Black is a multi-Grammy-nominated artist, as well as a songwriter, actor and producer. He signed with RCA Nashville in 1989 and released his debut album, Killin’ Time, which produced four straight No. 1 singles on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks charts. Throughout his career, he has had more than 30 singles on the Billboard country charts, 13 of which have reached No. 1. So far, he has released 14 studio albums, with his most recent being Out of Sane in 2020.
The “Like the Rain” singer revealed in multiple interviews that he is a self-taught musician, and learned how to play the harmonica and guitar when he was just a teenager. When Black was 17 years old, he was trying to decide between becoming an astronaut or a musician — obviously, he chose the latter.
“I really had grown up dreaming of being an astronaut. I decided I was either going to join the Air Force in an attempt to make my way into the space program, or I was going to pursue music,” Black shared to Musicribe. “I think I was 17 or 18 when I made that call. Fortunately, [with my grades] the Air Force wouldn’t have let me in either way.”
Despite his cancelled show on Friday, for now, Black is set to take the stage again on July 9 in Minden, Nevada. Tickets and more information for the rest of his Back on the Blacktop Tour can be found on his official website.
