Cowboys Music Festival sets a Guinness World Records title for largest drag show

13 July 20263 Mins Read

Cowboys Music Festival has officially made drag history after organizers announced that the festival achieved a Guinness World Records title for the largest drag show by attendance.

The milestone was reached on July 11, during Drag Me To Cowboys, where thousands of fans gathered at Cowboys Park to celebrate some of drag’s biggest names during the Calgary Stampede.

Now let’s take a look at what went down during the celebration.

A record-breaking afternoon

On July 7, Cowboys Music Festival announced plans to attempt to set a Guinness World Records title for the largest drag show by attendance, inviting locals to be part of what organizers hoped would become a historic moment for the Calgary Stampede.

The excitement was building long before the show started, and by the time fans arrived at the Cowboys Park, the space was packed with people dressed in sparkles, cowboy-inspired outfits and colourful looks, getting ready to celebrate a major moment for the drag community.

And the performance lineup was absolutely stacked. Fans got to see some of drag’s biggest names hit the stage, including Sasha Velour, the winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 9, as well as Sasha Colby and Roxxy Andrews.

The lineup also had a special hometown connection, with Calgary’s own Nearah Nuff taking the stage after competing on Canada’s Drag Race Season 4 and returning for Canada’s Drag Race All Stars.

After the opening performances wrapped up, Cowboys Music Festival organizers took the stage to announce that the Guinness World Records attempt had been achieved. We were lucky enough to be there for the iconic moment, and the energy was absolutely electric.

While the official attendance number that secured the world record has yet to be revealed, the moment itself was a major milestone for the music festival and everyone who came out to be part of it.

Once the announcement had been made, the celebration was far from over. The crowd erupted as RuPaul took over the stage with a special DJ set, immediately kicking off the celebration with “We Are the Champions.” The song had everyone singing and dancing along, and it truly felt like a moment of community.

Being there for the Guinness World Record announcement was a moment we won’t forget anytime soon. From the incredible performances to the roar of the crowd when the record was announced, the entire afternoon felt like more than just a festival event. Witnessing it all unfold was a reminder of the power of community and what can happen when people come together to celebrate something meaningful.
