The Canadian Finals Rodeo is returning to Edmonton next month with loads of free fun activities, five epic performances, and a final competition round for the title of champion.
This massive rodeo in Edmonton is Canada’s own national championship professional rodeo, not to mention the final premier event of the Canadian Professional Rodeo Association (CPRA). Here, you’ll be able to watch rodeo athletes compete in things like barrel racing and bareback riding, or you can take advantage of the daily country expo, including the tradeshow and a load of free Western events.
You’re going to want to get your cowboy hat on, because the full Western experience is already around the corner.
What can I expect at the Canadian Finals Rodeo this year?
The Canadian Finals Rodeo will be taking over Rogers Place from Oct. 7 to 10 for its five exciting performances. Each performance includes a lineup of championship rodeo events, with the atmosphere and excitement only growing as the stakes get higher.
According to the Canadian Finals Rodeo, this will include rodeo events like:
- Bareback Riding
- Saddle Bronc Riding
- Bull Riding
- Steer Wrestling
- Team Roping
- Tie-Down Roping
- Barrel Racing
- Breakaway Roping
You’ll also be able to find some of the same Western magic over at the Cinch Canadian Country Expo in the Edmonton Expo Centre, featuring over 100 vendors with all kinds of Western fashion, tack, home décor, equine products, and more from across Western Canada.
For those going back and forth from the rodeo, you might want to use the free shuttle (no ticket required) that will be running back and forth between both venues. It runs daily from 10 a.m. to midnight between the Edmonton Expo Centre and Rogers Place, with additional buses from 4 p.m.
What’s the performance schedule?
There are five performances total taking place over the course of the rodeo’s four days. Each day has its own dress themes that guests are encouraged to participate in. This includes:
- Wednesday, Oct. 7 (Doors at 5:30 p.m.; Show at 6:30 p.m.)
- Theme: Fringe and Turquoise
- Thursday, Oct. 8 (Doors at 5:30 p.m.; Show at 6:30 p.m.)
- Friday, Oct. 9 (Doors at 5:30 p.m.; Show at 6:30 p.m.)
- Saturday, Oct. 10 (Doors at 10 a.m.; Show at 11 a.m.)
- Saturday, Oct. 10 (Doors at 5:30 p.m.; Show at 6:30 p.m.)
Each performance runs approximately two and a half hours.
According to the rodeo’s website, Wednesday evening is best for first-time guests, Friday has one of the week’s most exciting atmospheres, and the Saturday matinee is perfect for an all-ages, family-friendly experience.
What are some of the free activities during the rodeo?
Over the course of the rodeo, there will be free events in the Ice District.
The Tailgate Party is just one of these events, running from Oct. 7 to 9, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., as well as on Oct. 10 from 2 to 6 p.m. At this party, you can enjoy live music every day, mechanical bull rides, food trucks, a full-service bar, a tattoo booth, and many more interactive games and displays.
There’s also the free After Party in Fan Park, being held from 9:30 p.m. to midnight on both Oct. 10 and Oct. 11. No cover is needed; just get ready for a night full of live performances, dancing, and a fun celebration to finish off the exciting event.
Back for another year is the CFR Backroads series, too, a free grassroots celebration with song slingers performing in venues across Edmonton. Starting Oct. 1, you’ll be able to see over 30 artists from across Alberta showcase their talent in 13 shows around the city.
Where can I get tickets?
You’ll be able to purchase tickets online on Ticketmaster, with each ticket price varying by performance as well as seat choice. As of Tuesday, Sept. 22, the lowest ticket price available for any of the performances is $57.33.
If you’re ready to get your dose of the Western experience, it won’t get much better than this. Grab your cowboy boots, bring some friends, and get ready to head down to Rogers Place this October.
