Avengers: Endgame Encore beat Resident Evil, Primetime, and more this weekend
Avengers: Endgame Encore hit theaters this weekend, and it did well enough to show pent-up anticipation for a new Avengers movie to come out. Thankfully, people won’t have to wait that long, as Avengers: Doomsday will be released in December.
Avengers: Endgame Encore tops the box office
Per Deadline, Avengers: Endgame Encore led the box office this past weekend, with an estimated 3-day gross of $26 million. While that’s a far cry from the opening weekend of a brand-new superhero flick, it’s impressive for a re-release with only a bit of new footage. Clearly, people are interested in getting an Avengers refresher before Doomsday comes out.
The strong opening weekend is also impressive because Avengers: Endgame Encore faced stiff competition. The successful Resident Evil adaptation entered its second weekend and new movies like Paramount’s The Heart of the Beast, A24’s Primetime, and DreamWorks’ Forgotten Island hit theaters. This Encore re-release also pushed Avengers: Endgame’s all-time domestic cume to $884.3 million, affirming its status as one of the highest-grossing movies domestically ever alongside Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
The success of both Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Avengers: Endgame Encore paints a promising picture for Avengers: Doomsday, which Encore directly sets up with its new post-credit scenes. Don’t be surprised if Avengers: Doomsday is a massive hit when it finally releases on Dec. 18.
