American thriller writer Freida McFadden is constantly finding her name and her titles on bestseller lists. Her latest release, The Witch, is no exception. The spooky mystery debuted on the New York Times bestseller list among other accolades.
Since its release at the beginning of October, The Witch has been immensely popular among readers. Over a month later, the book is still a bestselling title on Amazon, ranked No. 2 overall on the behemoth shopping epicenter behind only A Court of Splintered Harmony by Sarah J. Maas.
Reviewers on Goodreads, the popular website for readers, have this to say about McFadden’s latest twisty delight:
“Freida delivers what she does best: an addictive thriller that practically reads itself and can easily be devoured in one sitting.”
“This felt like a breath of fresh air from Freida and I really enjoyed it!”
“One of my favorite Frieda books now! This is a great spooky season thriller and kept me turning the pages.”
Needless to say, this is a book for thriller lovers, and fans of McFadden won’t be disappointed by adding it to their collection.

Set against a rural estate in sprawling Massachusetts, The Witch follows Julia Barlow, who has recently lost her job and her home. With nothing left and nowhere to go, she heads to Pemberton, her family’s home dating back to the seventeenth century, to care for her ailing grandmother and figure out what’s next. However, upon settling into Pemberton, Julia starts to unravel and discover that nothing is what it seems. Every night the clock stops at 3:41 AM, lights are going off with no explanation, and a voice is crying for help outside of Julia’s door. Julia begins to dig into the house’s history and discovers it’s tied to the execution of a woman who was accused of witchcraft in 1692, and there are more family lies than she ever could have imagined within the walls of Pemberton.
