Mods have always been a crucial part of the gaming industry. The game mods have brought something new to your favorite games through visual upgrades, new combat mechanics, and, in fact, a fresh take on the story. Over the years, game mods have helped several legendary titles like Skyrim and Fallout stay relevant even years after their official release.
Honestly, the games that feel fresh to this day would have been forgotten if not for game mods. And the credit for the game mods goes to the game modders, who work passionately on game mods because of their love for gaming. Obviously, PC gamers deeply respect and acknowledge the hard work of these talented creators. Still, most of these creators remain unseen by many, even though the work they can do (or have done) can rival that of some AAA developers. But don’t fret, as that’s where GGMods comes in, a platform with the aim to put the creators at the center of everything.
GGMods Will Officially Launch On April 13
After a soft launch in January, GGMods now has an official release date; the community-driven mod hosting platform will officially launch on April 13. Unlike several other mod hosting platforms, GGMods aims to create an ecosystem where the creators are the ones who benefit the most from their work.
Basically, it will allow creators to earn money through its Creator Rewards Program, which offers completely transparent insights. The creators earn through GGMods Points (GGP), which increase with the number of downloads of the mods. So, the more downloads a creator has on their mods, the more GGP points (and money) they earn. And yes, the number of downloads a creator has is transparent, and the value of each download doesn’t fluctuate from month-to-month.
After the soft launch, GGMods already has more than 3,000 mods, 8,000 downloads, 84 modders, and 40 supported games, including New Vegas, Stardew Valley, Skyrim, and Starfield. Now, with the official launch, the site is ready to take things even further. Of course, the site will add more popular and massive titles to its library and continue to build based on community and creator feedback.
The launch of GGMods will be accompanied by some very interesting community events. For starters, we have the Spring Madness 2026 Modathon, a month-long creation contest that will run from April 13 to May 11, 2026. A total of five games will be a part of this event, and which five games, you may ask? Well, that decision is totally on the creators. Apparently, the top five games with the most mod count will be selected for the month-long event. If the creators want their favorite game represented during the event, they have until April 12 to upload mods for that game(s). Speaking of rewards, the Modathon event carries a total prize pool of $7,000 USD in cash and $1,000 in Steam gift cards. Yes, it’s a lot, and we’ll share more details on the Modathon next week, so be sure to keep an eye out.
In addition, GGMods will host a community giveaway to celebrate the launch. Every user can participate in the giveaways for prizes such as gaming bundles, Steam gift cards, and Discord Nitros. Along with this, there will be a refer-a-friend program, so users can get more Steam gift cards by referring the platform to their friends.
While the official launch is on April 13, the creators are encouraged to join early to apply for the Founding Modders program. This will give eligible creators early cash advances and early access to platform features still in beta testing.
