GO Transit is opening this long-awaited station next summer and here’s what to know

10 July 20262 Mins Read

GO Transit will open its long-awaited Grimsby Station next summer, extending service on the busy Lakeshore West Line to the town of roughly 32,000.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford was on hand for the station’s official groundbreaking on Wednesday, July 8, kicking off the latest stage in the broader GO network expansion.

The new station will feature one train platform, a commuter parking lot with 220 spaces, pick-up/drop-off areas, and a bus loop.

Shovels are now in the ground for the new Grimsby GO Station, with service expected to begin next summer!

Ontario Minister of Transportation Prabmeet Sarkaria called the new station “a game-changer for Niagara,” noting that “it will get people where they’re going faster and safely, support good-paying jobs during construction and unlock increased service on the Lakeshore West line.”

The station will serve as the blueprint in a new standardized approach from the province, described as a “repeatable model” capable of “deliver[ing] value for money in both capital investment and future operating costs.”

It’s been a fast-paced week for regional transit expansion. Wednesday’s groundbreaking came just days after the province extended service on the Kitchener Line to the new Stratford GO Station on July 6.
