Heather and Tarek El Moussa Share Emotional Update After Home Break-in

15 June 20264 Mins Read

Heather Rae El Moussa and Tarek El Moussa are trying to find their way back to normal after a frightening home break-in.

The HGTV couple’s Southern California home was burglarized while they were away on vacation in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Days after first speaking out about the incident, Heather shared a more personal update about how their family is doing.

“Home is still our sanctuary,” she wrote over a photo of herself sitting on the floor with her 3-year-old son, Tristan.

Heather posted the update to her Instagram Stories on Sunday, June 14.

In one slide, she held Tristan as the two spent quiet time together at home. She wrote that they were getting in “some snuggle time” to recharge before the week ahead.

In another message, Heather thanked everyone who had reached out to their family after the break-in.

“Thank you again to everyone that has reached out for support & love,” she wrote. “It didn’t go unnoticed.”

She added that the family is continuing to get “back to our normal routine” while prioritizing their safety.

The Couple Previously Said They Felt Violated

Heather and Tarek first addressed the burglary in a joint Instagram statement on Friday, June 12.

“Our home has always been our sanctuary, the place where Tarek and I raise and protect our babies, love our family and find peace,” they wrote.

The couple said having that space violated was “deeply unsettling,” but added that they were grateful their family was safe.

They also said they were heartbroken over the sentimental items and family heirlooms that were taken.

“While material things can be replaced, our hearts are broken over the irreplaceable family heirlooms and special memories that were taken from us,” they wrote.

Police Shared Details About the Break-In

The Newport Beach Police Department confirmed to People that the incident happened sometime between Saturday, June 6, and Monday, June 8.

Police said unknown suspects accessed the backyard of the property and shattered a rear sliding glass door to get inside the home. Once inside, the suspects ransacked the primary bedroom closet before fleeing.

Police also confirmed that jewelry was stolen.

Heather had hinted that something upsetting had happened before the couple shared the full statement. On Tuesday, June 9, she wrote on Instagram Stories that she and Tarek felt “violated” and “really sad,” while also reassuring followers that they and the children were safe.

The Break-In Comes During a Busy Time for the Couple

The incident comes during an active stretch for Heather and Tarek.

The couple star together on HGTV’s The Flipping El Moussas, while Heather is also known to many reality TV fans from Selling Sunset. She is also expected to return to the Netflix series alongside Christine Quinn, who had also stepped away from the show in recent seasons.

Tarek has also continued to speak publicly about his real estate career, his years on Flip or Flop, and his blended family with Heather and his ex-wife, Christina Haack.

They Are Focused on Safety and Routine

For now, Heather and Tarek appear to be focused on protecting their family and restoring some peace at home.

In their first statement, they said they are taking “every precaution” to protect their home moving forward. They also thanked law enforcement for their “swift response and diligent work.”

Heather’s latest update made it clear that the emotional side of the break-in is still fresh. But it also showed the couple taking small steps back into family routine.
