'High Potential' Solves Another Crime This Week, But Where's Arthur?

14 January 20263 Mins Read

One of the things I love about High Potential is its ability to serve up new cases each week, all while consistently threading the overarching mystery of where in the world Morgan’s (Kaitlin Olson) ex Roman is hiding … and why. Every time I think we’re an inch closer to finding the guy, episodes go by without a mention of him. And now Arthur (Mekhi Phifer) is missing, with nary a clue as to his whereabouts after his cell phone was found outside of his empty truck on the Jan. 6 episode.

Do we learn anything more about Arthur this week? Not exactly, but I have a theory. So let’s dive in.

During High Potential’s Jan. 13 episode, Morgan and the squad are investigating the murder of an undercover FBI agent who is posing as a hitman for hire. It involves a wealthy businessman, a scorned husband, and a very, very shady FBI boss. Ultimately they learn that the billionaire and FBI boss are in cahoots together, which sends them both to prison, but not before the case gets under Morgan’s skin. In fact, we learn that the arrogant businessman reminds Morgan of her father, who’s still alive (I had always presumed he had passed).

But while the case was interesting and it was nice to see the good guys win, I couldn’t help but wonder why Morgan isn’t more concerned about finding Arthur.

Seriously, where’s Arthur?

Early in this week’s episode, Lt. Soto (Judy Reyes) addresses the elephant in the room, pulling Morgan aside to let her know that they didn’t find any blood or evidence of a fight around Arthur’s truck. This leads Morgan to hope that whatever happened to Arthur, he wasn’t hurt, or at least wasn’t hurt at the time he left his truck.

But that’s it—that’s all we got for that mystery this week. It was such a small moment, but it got me thinking. If there was no evidence of a struggle near Arthur’s truck, maybe, just maybe, the person following him on his way to the precinct last week was actually Roman. Is it possible that Roman realized Arthur could be in danger because of this mystery man in search of Roman’s backpack, and set out to help him hide before anything bad happens to him? Right now that’s the theory I’m working with. That maybe, just maybe, Arthur was forced to leave his phone behind so he couldn’t be tracked, but left peacefully with Roman to get out of danger.

After all, we did see our mystery villain watching Morgan and the gang have drinks after closing last week’s art heist case. He could have kidnapped Arthur, then quickly pivoted to spying on Morgan, but that timeline doesn’t really add up.

Whether or not I’m on to something remains to be seen, but I’m looking forward to any clues (even subtle ones) that we may get in next week’s episode.
