How to get thorium in Hytale

In Hytale, looking for thorium is part of the natural progression of the game, as it is the next level up from iron weapons, armor, and tools. However, getting thorium takes a bit more work than its previous counterparts.

Finding thorium nodes involves a lot of walking — and preparation too, considering the dangers you may encounter while exploring caves or high places. To make farming this material a smoother process, here’s how to find thorium and thorium ingots in Hytale.

How to find thorium ore in Hytale

You can find thorium ore nodes in the Howling Sands, which is the desert zone in Hytale. Although the map layout is different for every player, from the beginning of your journey, you can zoom out on the map and locate the arid areas covered in sand. The Howling Sands is considered the second zone in Hytale, and exploring it requires good gear to deal with enemies that spawn in the area. But if you’re ready for the challenge, head to the closest desert to grab some thorium.

Once you reach the Howling Sands, you’ll need to find a cave system as the best place to look for thorium is underground. You can always dig your own entrance, but you can search the map for small circular openings, which usually represent cave entrances. After you enter a cave, you’re looking for rectangular green stones sprouting out of the ground, walls, or even ceiling. To mine thorium, all you’ll need is a pickaxe. It doesn’t matter if it’s crude or copper, you’ll be able to mine it with any tier. Additionally, you don’t need to go too deep into the caves to find thorium nodes, but it may take a few minutes exploring to find them.

It’s possible to find thorium nodes on the surface in the Howling Sands, near the tops of the highest mountains in the zone. However, you won’t find as many nodes as you do in the caves, making the surface far from the best place to farm this specific ore.

How to get thorium ingots in Hytale

You can craft thorium ingots in Hytale by placing thorium ore in a furnace and smelting it. Making thorium ingot doesn’t require special types of fuel or a higher-tier furnace — you only need the ore and wood or coal to power the furnace.

However, to use your thorium ingots, you’ll need to upgrade your blacksmith’s anvil, armorer’s workbench, and workbench to tier two in order to create thorium weapons, armor, and tools.
