I Tried the New Dr. Jart+ BB Cream—and the Shade Range Finally Works for My Skin

There is a specific makeup calculus that happens every summer when the temperature crosses 90 degrees and the idea of wearing foundation becomes almost offensive. Foundation is for fall. Foundation is for air-conditioned offices and evening events when you have some serious time to get it right.

In summer, you need something that gives you coverage without making you feel like you’re wearing a second skin—ideally one that also has SPF so you can skip a step entirely. This is the BB cream promise, and it’s a promise the K-beauty category has been delivering on for decades.

I’ve been using Dr. Jart+ BB Cream in various iterations for years, so when the brand updated the formula in 2026 and—crucially—expanded the shade range, I wanted to see what actually changed.

As someone who is very fair and very cool-toned, “lightest shade” products have historically been a gamble. Sometimes they match. More often they leave me looking vaguely peachy or weirdly warm, and occasionally I am serving fully reanimated corpse! Luckily, the new Fair shade is a different story.

The reformulated Premium BB now comes in eight flexible tints—up from six in the previous formula—plus the new shades are designed to adapt more seamlessly across a multitude of fair to deep skin tones.

What Is Dr. Jart+ BB Cream—and What’s New About This Formula?

BB cream is beauty balm, for anyone who missed the original K-beauty wave! Welcome to the craze! It is a hybrid product that sits somewhere between a tinted moisturizer and a light foundation.

The Dr. Jart+ version has been a cult product for years specifically because it was developed by a dermatologist-inspired brand with a focus on skin health rather than just coverage.

Laura Beck

The updated Premium Korean BB Cream Tinted Moisturizer keeps the core concept but reformulates the texture and expands the shade options, which is the change that matters most if you’ve ever picked up the “lightest” shade of something and watched it oxidize orange by noon.

The new formula is a creamy-gel texture with glycerin, 2% niacinamide and SPF 30 built in. It’s inspired by Korean post-procedure balms—the kind formulated to be gentle enough for skin that’s just been through a treatment—which explains why it’s non-comedogenic, dermatologist-tested and suitable for acne-prone skin.

The clinical results are also pretty spectacular, with 100% of testers showing improved hydration and skin radiance, and 97% said it minimizes the look of acne scars and blemishes after one week of use.

Does Dr. Jart+ BB Cream Actually Replace Moisturizer, Sunscreen and Foundation?

This is the question I was testing in real time, and the answer is, in fact, yes, on the days when you want it to. The glycerin and niacinamide do enough hydrating work that I didn’t feel like I needed a separate moisturizer underneath—my skin felt comfortable and not at all tight throughout the day.

The SPF 30 covers daily broad-spectrum protection. And the coverage, while buildable, gives enough of an evening effect that I didn’t feel underdressed for a normal day out.

Of course, it doesn’t replace a full-coverage foundation for events where you need more, a heavy-duty SPF 50 if you’re spending a day outside, or a dedicated serum if you’re working on specific skin concerns. It’s a streamlining product, not a replacement for your entire routine. But on a busy summer morning when I want three steps instead of seven, it’s exactly right.

What Does Dr. Jart+ BB Cream Feel Like on the Skin?

Laura Beck

This is where the update delivers. The texture is lightweight in a way that doesn’t feel like a compromise—it glides on smoothly, blends easily with fingers or a brush and dries down to a satin finish that reads as skin rather than product. It’s not tacky, not heavy and not the kind of thing that sits in your pores. It stays put all day and doesn’t come off until you double cleanse that night. (And you should double cleanse!)

The brand recommends waiting up to two minutes after application for the formula to fully adapt to your skin tone, and this step is important. The formula is designed to change toward your natural undertone as it sets, which is part of why the shade matching feels more accurate than previous versions—it’s not just sitting on top of your skin doing its own thing.

For my very fair, cool-toned skin specifically, the new Fair shade adapted beautifully. Previous iterations ran slightly warm on me, which created that “I’m clearly wearing something” effect I abhor. This one settles into something super close to my natural skin tone with just enough coverage to look like a better, more even version of my face.

How Long Does Dr. Jart+ BB Cream Last?

All-day wear is what the brand claims, and the clinical testing supports it—97% of testers said skin felt moisturized all day after a week of use. My experience tracks with that. I applied it in the morning, and by early evening it had faded gracefully rather than oxidizing into a weird color or separating into patchy coverage.

The satin finish holds reasonably well through a normal day, though if you’re in intense heat or humidity you may want a light setting powder over the top to extend it.

Who Is This BB Cream Actually For?

Laura Beck

Honestly, this BB cream would work for most people who want coverage without committing to foundation. It works for days when you want to look put-together without looking made up—the finish is natural enough that people will assume your skin just looks good rather than that you’re wearing something.

It’s particularly well-suited for fair to medium skin tones given the expanded shade range, and it’s a strong choice for anyone with acne-prone or sensitive skin given the gentle, post-procedure-inspired formulation.

If you have very oily skin and need something more mattifying, you might want a separate setting powder for longevity. If you need high coverage for significant redness or hyperpigmentation, you’ll want to build layers or add concealer on top. But as a lightweight, multitasking everyday product that combines moisturizing, evening and protecting in a single step—it does exactly what it says.

The Final Verdict

For me, the Dr. Jart+ Premium Korean BB Cream Tinted Moisturizer will be the product I reach for on summer days when I want to look like myself, only slightly more polished, without spending twenty minutes in front of a mirror.

The new shades are a major improvement and the formula feels more refined than previous versions. Plus, the SPF 30 means I can cross one step off my morning routine entirely. At $49 for a product that replaces three, the math works for me.
