Jessica Simpson got emotional onstage as she discussed her struggles with alcoholism.
Simpson, 45, rose to fame as a pop singer and reality star, whose role on the MTV series Newlyweds alongside then-husband Nick Lachey skyrocketed her to stardom. While she triumphed professionally and personally, there was a dark truth behind the surface: she was struggling with alcoholism and spent her days drinking.
In a new concert appearance at the Yaamava’ Resort & Casino in Highland, California, on Tuesday, Simpson fought back tears as she recalled realizing alcohol was holding her back.
“I realised that the drinking wasn’t numbing my pain, it was actually causing more pain,” Jessica told the crowd as she introduced a song titled “Give It All Away,” which was cowritten by Linda Perry.
“In all honesty, I’m just a work in progress, and I celebrate each and every day that I feel alive and in my body, and I’m very proud of myself,” she added, in a video captured by The Hollywood Reporter. “I want all of you to know that you should have a little grace for yourself, and everything is gonna be OK if you just give it all away, and that’s what this song is about.”
Sharing that she hoped she could “do this without crying,” Simpson started to sing the previously unreleased song.

How Long Has Jessica Simpson Been Sober?
Jessica Simpson has been sober for over eight years.
In November 2025, the singer celebrated eight years without alcohol in a touching social media post.
“8 years ago today I made the choice to confront, to confess and to let go of the self sabotaging parts of my life that I was choosing. Making that decision allowed me to fully live in the pursuit of Gods purpose for my life. Alcohol silenced my intuition, blocked my dreams and chased my circulating fears of complacency,” she shared in a selfie. “Today I am clear. Today I am driven by faith. Both fear and faith are something that we feel and may not see, I’m so happy I chose faith over fear. It was not in the fight that I found my strength, it was in the surrender.”
