Jonathan Scott Reveals the Big Decision He & Zooey Deschanel Made About Their Wedding

HGTV star Jonathan Scott and his fiancée, actress Zooey Deschanel, aren’t interested in having a big wedding.

While speaking to People magazine in March 2026, Jonathan, who divorced his first wife, Kelsy Ully, in 2010, explained that he’s just inviting individuals who reciprocate his and Deschanel’s effort in friendships to their upcoming ceremony.

“I’ve sort of entered this phase of my life now where I’m realizing there are a lot of people around you who… you put way more effort into the relationship than they do. People who I find I’m constantly asking if they would like to go out, if I make plans, would you like to join? And they don’t reciprocate,” said Jonathan during the March 2026 People interview. “I think we have decided we want to be around the people who actually love our friendship and love spending time with us.”

He clarified that he and Deschanel don’t have any other solidified wedding plans.

“So, I’m okay with the idea of something intimate that’s just the people who really care. And at some point, we’ll figure out a date and a location and all that stuff, but we haven’t done it yet,” said the famed home renovator.

Deschanel has two children, fathered by her second ex-husband, Jacob Pechenik, per People.

Drew Scott Opened up About His Large Wedding in a 2024 Interview Alongside Jonathan Scott

Jonathan made similar comments about what he’s been envisioning for his wedding with Deschanel during a June 2024 interview on The Kelly Clarkson Show, alongside his brother and Property Brothers co-host, Drew Scott. Jonathan said that he and Deschanel intend on having a small wedding.

“We just want a kick-a-s party with people we love,” said Jonathan during the 2024 talk show interview.

Drew then noted that he and his wife, Linda Phan, had quite a large wedding with over 300 guests in Italy in 2018. Drew also said that his wife felt a bit overwhelmed by the amount of wedding guests.

“I’m okay with things being busy and a lot happening. My wife is not. And so we realized that it would be better to have more just us moments,” said Drew.

The father of two clarified that he and Phan enjoyed their destination wedding.

“It was very memorable and we loved it,” said Drew in the 2024 Kelly Clarkson Show interview.
