Kagurabachi manga goes on short hiatus following anime announcement

17 June 20262 Mins Read

Kagurabachi is one of the biggest titles among the new generation of Shonen Jump manga, its popularity further confirmed by the recent announcement of an anime adaptation coming in 2027. However, as stated by the series’ official account on X, the Kagurabachi manga will be entering a short hiatus starting in June 2026.

Going on break is not unusual for manga. The schedule for creators, especially those working on a weekly series, is grueling, to say the least. One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda, for example, takes a break every three weeks, but that’s only because the series’ unparalleled popularity has earned Oda the right to make requests that other mangaka cannot afford. It appears that Kagurabachi‘s author Takeru Hokazono has at least earned the right to take a short break from work.

Kagurabachi will be on hiatus from June 29 until an unspecified date in August. While no specific reason has been stated, the post mentions “ensuring that the work will be presented regularly in the future.” In the past, the manga published unfinished chapters in Shonen Jump, proving that Hokazono was struggling with the deadlines. It appears that this move is meant to preserve the health of the author (who is just 25 years old), something that the manga industry didn’t seem to care a lot about in the past.

Prominent mangaka like Bleach‘s author Tite Kubo have spoken openly about how their mental and physical health was negatively affected by the demands of weekly serialization. Hunter x Hunter’s Yoshihiro Togashi is sadly bedridden due to back issues caused by bad working habits. Fans and authors have been demanding for years that the manga industry start taking this issue more into consideration. Little by little, it seems that habits are shifting. Popular series like Chainsaw Man and Black Clover were allowed to move from Shonen Jump to biweekly or monthly publications to grant their authors a lighter schedule.

Now, it seems that Shueisha is taking heed of Hokazono’s needs and his possible health issues. The publisher clearly sees Kagurabachi as its next big hit, considering all the hype surrounding the anime. Let’s hope that the author will be able to return to work soon and, more importantly, that the industry’s habits will keep shifting in this direction.
