The Hythe, a Luxury Collection Resort, Vail, has appointed Kevin Shields as general manager and Douglas Farnsworth as executive chef.

Shields will oversee resort operations, including guest services, food and beverage, sales and marketing, revenue strategy and associate engagement. He will work with ownership, DiamondRock Hospitality, Vail Resorts and Marriott International.

Shields has worked in luxury hotels and destination resorts and returns to a community he has known for more than 15 years.

Farnsworth will oversee the resort’s four dining concepts and banquet operations: Revel Lounge, Margie’s Haas, Mountain Ration and 10th Mountain.

His culinary experience includes fine dining, luxury hospitality, resort operations and restaurant concepts. Farnsworth previously worked at the Historic Mission Inn Hotel & Spa in California and held leadership positions with Marriott, Hilton Hotels and Troon Golf.

He also served as executive chef at 555 East American Steakhouse and regional culinary manager for King’s Seafood Company. He helped develop Meat On Ocean in Santa Monica, where he created a dry-aged beef program later adopted by other flagship restaurants.

Most recently, Farnsworth served as culinary director at Xperience Restaurant Group, overseeing multiple brands. His work included traditional culinary techniques and efforts to modernize the guest experience.
