Metallica fails to disappoint when they hit the road during summer. The band has made a brand out of delivering massive on-stage spectacles. Their songs really lend themselves to the biggest stages possible, and the moments that are created are simply unforgettable.
The band has recently broken one of their greatest musical achievements into the rotation, treating fans around the world to one of the greatest metal songs ever, and that is “Orion.”
The song is an eight-minute instrumental epic celebrating the legendary Cliff Burton. The song features some of the greatest metal bass playing ever on it, with countless lines and solos throughout that serve as an eerie send-off to the bandmate that isn’t there anymore on this tour. Recently fans were treated to an amazing performance of the song at one of Metallica’s shows.

The iconic bass part carrying the song forward with the wailing guitar harmonies is such a legendary musical moment that must have been incredible to see live. Bassist Rob Trujillo is also killing it. It’s not the most difficult line in the world during this section, but the tone and emotion he’s getting out of his bass is really great. It’s nice to see Cliff’s music being performed with such reverence.
Fans absolutely loved the performance, taking to the comments to express their appreciation for the legendary track.
“Best of the BEST!!🤘”
“My favorite song!!🤪🥰🤪”
“One of the best instrumentals.”
Every night that “Orion” is performed, Cliff Burton’s memory lives on, and every single not of that bass part is a tribute to a legend that everyone should know. There is no Metallica with Cliff Burton, whether that’s in person or in spirit. He was a unique revolutionary that changed rock and heavy metal music forever with his hard, fast, and innovative style.
