Minor Hotels has appointed Magdalena Martorell as general manager of Avani+ Fares Maldives Resort, following her role as general manager of Anantara Uluwatu Bali Resort in Indonesia since February 2025.
Martorell’s experience includes resort operations, commercial work, guest experience and team development.
She has held hospitality leadership roles in Spain, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and China, with more than a decade of hospitality leadership experience in Asia.
At Anantara Uluwatu Bali Resort, Martorell led operations and strategic direction. Her work included guest experiences across wellness, culture, dining and destination discovery. During her tenure, the resort ranked eighth among resorts in Indonesia in the Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards 2025.
Before joining Minor Hotels, Martorell was general manager of Meliá Phuket Mai Khao in Thailand for nearly four years. She led the property’s pre-opening and launch in November 2021, then oversaw operations. Her work included wellness spaces and rituals, wellness villa concepts and retreats with visiting practitioners.
Martorell also served as general manager at Meliá Shanghai Parkside in China and SOL by Meliá Phu Quoc in Vietnam, with both assignments involving pre-opening work. She previously served as hotel manager at Meliá Bali, including one year as acting general manager, after holding hotel leadership positions in Spain.
At Avani+ Fares, Martorell plans to develop guest experiences through collaborations with artists, wellness and fitness specialists, and sports professionals. Planned activities include padel and football camps, fitness, wellness and marine life experiences. Her approach includes service culture and team development, as well as experiences related to the Maldives’ natural environment.
Martorell studied hotel management at E.S.T.B., University of Tourism in Mallorca, Spain. She holds a Certificate in Executive Leadership from Cornell University and completed studies in hotel real estate and investment there.
