A massive new indoor and outdoor sports and recreation centre with 200,000 square feet of space is coming to Toronto.
Field Recreation Inc. is announcing that The Sports Complex at YZD will feature two full-size soccer fields, and a 50,000-square-foot racquet sports facility, and one of Canada’s largest dedicated padel destinations.
“Across Toronto, demand for sports fields and court space continues to outpace supply,” said Robert Ortali, founder of Field Recreation Inc. “At Field Recreation, we believe in building active communities together. The Sports Complex at YZD was designed to help address the growing need for sports infrastructure while creating a place where people can connect, compete, stay active and belong.”
The facility will be located just north of the 401 and Yorkdale Shopping Centre at YZD, the 370-acre former Downsview Airport lands.
The soccer facilities will include two 75,000-square-foot soccer fields, one indoor and one outdoor, with North Toronto Soccer as the fields’ anchor tenant.
“This is a landmark moment for North Toronto Soccer,” said Kenrick Sylvestre, president of North Toronto Soccer. “The Sports Complex at YZD will give our players access to modern, high-quality facilities while helping us expand opportunities for youth at every level. From grassroots and recreational play to All-Abilities programming and high-performance competition, this new facility will help us break down barriers to participation, build community and give more young people the opportunity to fall in love with the game.”
On the racquet sports side, there will be a 50,000 square foot space operated by Premier Racquet Clubs with six doubles tennis courts, one singles tennis court, six pickleball courts and year-round facilities.
“Great clubs are built around people and community,” said Karl Hale, owner and operator of Premier Racquet Clubs. “The Sports Complex at YZD allows us to create a year-round home for tennis and pickleball in this part of the city, one that combines exceptional facilities, professional coaching and programming, and a welcoming environment where players of all ages and skill levels can learn, improve and connect. We are excited to bring the Premier Racquet Clubs experience to this incredible new facility.”
Founding memberships for Premier Racquet Clubs at The Sports Complex are now open.
