Collect all Sanrio x Monsterverse toys in McDonald’s latest tie-in
McDonald’s is giving Hello Kitty and Godzilla fans the crossover they deserve. As of Tuesday, Aug. 18, Hello Kitty and Friends are cosplaying as Godzilla and other beloved kaiju in toys that are only available through McDonald’s Happy Meals. The highly anticipated collaboration between the two Japanese giants — one of which stands only five apples tall — is now available at McDonald’s in the U.S.
The McDonald’s Hello Kitty and Friends x Godzilla collab was announced earlier this month, but they’re now available for hungry fans of all things cute and terrifying.
Eight Sanrio characters are cosplaying as creatures from Toho’s monsterverse, which includes Godzilla and several of his foes and frenemies. As the two most well-known characters, the Hello Kitty toy will, of course, dress up as Godzilla. Here are the Happy Meal toy combinations for the Sanrio x Godzilla collaboration at McDonald’s:
- Hello Kitty x Godzilla
- Chococat x Space Godzilla
- Kuromi x MechaGodzilla
- Keroppi x King Ghidorah
- Badtz-Maru x Rodan
- My Melody x Mothra
- Cinnamoroll x Destoroyah
- Pompompurin x Gigan
It is an adorable collaboration that is bound to be popular — which, unfortunately, also means that scalpers will be on them like vultures. In the past, fun collabs like this have resulted in scalpers purchasing menus in bulk and dumping food on the street. In 2021, McDonald’s Happy Meals included Pokémon cards, which led to a toy shortage and wasted food, as greedy adults ordered dozens of menus at a time — the same thing happened again in 2025.
If this becomes a recurring situation, McDonald’s will have to find a solution to avoid food waste and prevent scalpers from taking all of the toys for themselves. Hopefully, the craze won’t reach a level of obsession and severity where McDonald’s has to set up facial recognition technology in its stores like the Pokémon Centers in Japan.
