MEININGER Hotels will officially open MEININGER Hotel Edinburgh Haymarket on 5 August. Located in Edinburgh’s West End, the property is the company’s first hotel in Scotland and the UK. The hotel occupies the former Osborne House, a 1970s office building that had been vacant for several years before its redevelopment.

Owned by S Harrison and built by Ogilvie Construction, the hotel adds 157 rooms and 549 beds to the Edinburgh market. The building’s transformation included a new structural extension.

The hotel is situated in the Haymarket district, with Haymarket Station nearby providing direct rail links across Scotland and the UK, as well as tram connections to Edinburgh Airport and the city centre. The location offers access to attractions such as Edinburgh Castle, the Royal Mile, Princes Street, Murrayfield Stadium, and the Edinburgh International Conference Centre. The property is positioned as a base for visitors attending events including the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, concerts, and sporting fixtures.

Accommodation options include private single, double, and multi-bed rooms, as well as individually bookable beds in shared dormitories. Communal facilities include a guest kitchen, bar, lounge areas, a breakfast area, and an outdoor terrace. The hotel is designed to accommodate a range of guests, including families, student groups, backpackers, festival attendees, conference participants, and business travellers.

The Edinburgh Haymarket opening is part of MEININGER’s ongoing European expansion. The company currently operates 37 hotels in 27 European cities, with Edinburgh becoming its 38th property. Recent and upcoming developments include projects in Barcelona, Strasbourg, Madrid, Porto, and Tel Aviv. Dublin is scheduled to join the portfolio in 2028.

Ahead of the opening, MEININGER Hotel Edinburgh Haymarket has recruited an international team of approximately 20 employees for guest-facing and operational roles.

Edinburgh’s popularity as a travel destination is cited by Time Out (March 2026): The 50 best cities in the world in 2026.
