Mews Breaks new Ground with an Industry-First E-Money License in the European Economic Area

11 August 20262 Mins Read

In Brief: Mews Financial Services B.V. has received an Electronic Money Institution license from De Nederlandsche Bank, allowing it to provide regulated payment services in the European Economic Area.

Mews Financial Services B.V., the regulated entity established by Mews Systems, has been granted an Electronic Money Institution, or EMI, license by De Nederlandsche Bank. The license provides regulated status in the European Economic Area and allows Mews to process payments on its own infrastructure.

The license enables Mews to unify payment services, financial workflows and operational data within a single system. Previously, operational records were held in Mews while financial records originated in third-party systems. The EMI license allows the company to bring those records together in the system where revenue is created.

The authorization establishes a basis for Mews to develop additional financial capabilities for hospitality on its existing infrastructure. Mews reported $19.7 billion in hotel transaction value in 2025.

Mews Financial Services is subject to governance, safeguarding and compliance requirements for payment-service providers in the EEA, including keeping customer funds separate from Mews’ operational accounts.

The company will bring risk management, fraud monitoring, sanctions screening and anti-money-laundering controls into its operating system under the license.

Mews plans to roll out regulated capabilities starting in late 2026, beginning with a pilot group of properties in the Netherlands before progressively expanding across the EEA.

The company plans to use operational data flowing through the platform to develop financial products for hotels.
