Minor Hotels has signed an agreement to manage the 70-key Anantara Retreat Darjeeling Hills, scheduled to open in 2031 at the Tindharia Tea Estate in West Bengal.
The property will be the first Anantara Retreat in India and will be located within the 849-acre Tindharia Tea Estate, which will continue operating as a working plantation. The estate is in Tindharia, 40 kilometers from Darjeeling town.
Bagdogra International Airport is about 33 kilometers from the site, or roughly one hour by road, with direct daily flights to Delhi, Kolkata, Bangkok and other major cities.
The tea estate ranges from 450 to 1,000 meters above sea level. The retreat’s design will follow the estate’s topography. Accommodation will include 35 suites and 35 tented villas along the slope.
Facilities will include an Anantara Spa, fitness center and swimming pool. The property will also offer wellness experiences connected to the region’s natural surroundings and tea-growing heritage. A 750-square-meter meeting and event space is planned for MICE groups and destination weddings.
The retreat’s program will include access to the tea factory and tea garden on the working estate.
Anantara Retreat Darjeeling Hills is being developed in partnership with JK Urbana Garden Private Limited, a joint venture between JK Urbanscapes Developers Limited and Kaushal Kumbhat.
The signing is the fourth Anantara property announced in India this year, following announcements for Anantara Jadcherla Hyderabad Resort in September 2026 and Anantara Zanti Coorg Resort and Anantara Kolkata Hotel in April 2026.
Minor Hotels expects to announce further signings in India before the end of 2026.
