‘Mrs. Doubtfire’ Child Star Mara Wilson, 39, Makes Rare Red Carpet Appearance After Leaving Hollywood

15 October 20262 Mins Read

Mara Wilson rose to stardom in some of the most beloved films of the ’90s, and the beauty is back on the red carpet in 2026.

Wilson, 39, hit it big as a child star in films like Mrs. Doubtfire, Matilda and Miracle on 34th Street. Starring opposite legends like Robin Williams and Danny DeVito shot her to fame at a very young age. While she largely decided to leave acting after 2000’s Thomas and the Magic Railroad, she’s found great success doing voiceover roles, web series and podcasts. Now the star is back on the red carpet, attending Selena Gomez‘s 4th Annual Rare Impact Fund Benefit at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles, California. The brunette beauty stunned in a beaded black gown as she posed on the red carpet.

While Wilson found fame as a little girl, she’s found success as an adult in a unique field. She has a thriving career as an audiobook editor.

“I love that you can be anything,” Wilson told PEOPLE back in May, noting that she’s done about 70 books. “I love that you get to play all the characters.”

While she grew up a “theater kid,” Wilson noted that storytelling was her real passion. That’s why audiobooks are the perfect fit.

“All I ever wanted to do was tell stories, write stories and perform stories. . . . So I think that it makes sense to me that my job now is storytelling,” she said.

Does Mara Wilson Want to Make a Return to the Big Screen?

Not really. However, she has had the opportunity to work on a few of her friends’ projects. But still, going back to acting full time would be a significant shift.

“I say, ‘Well, look, there aren’t always roles for women of my specific age and my specific looks and demographic and everything,” she told PEOPLE. “And I would really have to change myself a lot to be able to fit into Hollywood’s mold and I don’t really want to do that.”
