Nearly 70 new campsites are coming to Ontario parks this year

14 June 20262 Mins Read

Good news for campers: Ontario Parks has announced that three of the province’s most sought-after campgrounds will open 67 new campsites, offering an additional 5,000 camping nights that guests can book for the upcoming 2026 summer season.

According to a press release, Killarney Provincial Park, MacGregor Point Provincial Park, and Driftwood Provincial Park are expanding as part of the first phase of a $60-million investment, bringing the largest campground expansions in the province in the last 50 years.

This news comes at a convenient time. With travel costs at an all-time high, many Ontario residents are likely opting to stay closer to home and explore the adventures in their own backyards, including classic camping staycations.

MacGregor Point will be home to 17 new campsites, while both Killarney and Driftwood will add 25 new sites each, with the latter offering electrical campsites.

With nearly 14 million campers visiting Ontario parks last year, this expansion aims to help meet the growing demand for outdoor recreation.

“Ontario’s provincial parks are among our most iconic tourism assets, attracting visitors from across Canada and around the world,” says Stan Cho, minister of tourism, culture, and gaming.

Cho adds that the expansion will make Ontario’s scenic destinations more accessible to both locals and visitors, something businesses and organizations across the province are increasingly mindful of as they prepare for the influx of tourists expected during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

By Summer 2027, Ontario Parks is looking to add 300 new campsites and upgrade 800 existing sites with electrical service, providing campers with access to power at their designated sites.

Reservations for the 67 new sites will open on June 15, with campers able to book stays beginning June 26.

Those interested in reserving a campsite can do so directly through the Ontario Parks website.
