Netflix Announces New True-Crime Documentary ‘The Crash,’ Debuting in May 2026

In May 2026, Netflix will release a new true-crime documentary film The Crash, which chronicles and examines a case that saw a teenager drive in her car into a brick building at 100MPH to kill her boyfriend and another passenger.

Netflix has announced a true-crime documentary, The Crash, which is a deep dive into the harrowing 2022 incident in which Ohio 17-year-old teenager Mackenzie Shirilla intentionally drove 100 mph into a brick building, killing both her boyfriend Dominic Russo and his friend Davion Flanagan. Shirilla was convicted of 12 felony charges and ultimately sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole in 15 years. In 2025, she was incarcerated at the Ohio Reformatory for Women. On sentencing, a judge called her “hell on wheels,” a phrase that’s since become synonymous with the case.

The feature-length Netflix documentary is the latest comprehensive deep dive into the case, exploring and examining the chilling crime, shifting narratives, and the volatile relationship at its centre. The case has already been covered extensively in the media, most notably in Channel 4’s Killer Cases Season 4: Murder on Wheels, and in Mean Girl Murders.

Check out the official synopsis for The Crash below:

A car carrying three young adults slams into a brick building at 100 miles per hour in Strongsville, Ohio, leaving two lives lost and one sole survivor. The driver, 17-year-old Mackenzie Shirilla, was driving her boyfriend, Dom, and his friend, Davion, home from a party when the unthinkable happened. But as detectives comb through the wreckage, what first appears to be a tragic accident begins to look like a calculated crime scene. The Crash takes a deep dive into the volatile relationship at the center, examining the shifting narratives of that fateful night to explore where a fatal mistake ends and cold-blooded murder begins.

The documentary film is directed by Gareth Johnson, who previously helmed Netflix’s true crime documentary The Puppet Master: Hunting The Ultimate Conman. In addition, Angharad Scott (Reframed: Marilyn Monroe) is a producer. Also down as executive producers are Raw’s Rebecca North and Jonny Taylor.

The Crash marks another collaboration between Netflix and Raw

Netflix and Raw TV have already built a strong, storied history of collaborations, especially in the true crime sphere. Look no further than Don’t F**k With Cats: Hunting an Internet Killer (2019), The Tinder Swindler (2022), American Nightmare (2024), and Trainwreck, which will return for a second season.

The Crash releases on Netflix on May 15, 2026.
