Pokémon Go is having a Lechonk Community Day event on Saturday, May 9 from 2-5 p.m. in your local time. Now is your chance to nab this cute pink pig from the Paldea region.
As expected with a Community Day event, Lechonk will spawn in huge numbers with a high chance for it to appear shiny. There are also several other bonuses and perks, which we’ve listed out below.
How do I catch a shiny Lechonk?
As per old research by the now-defunct website The Silph Road (via Wayback Machine), shiny rates on Community Days are about 1 in 24, which means that if you keep playing throughout the three-hour window, you should find quite a few shiny Pokémon.
As a reminder, Lechonk’s evolved form, Oinkologne, looks different depending on its gender. You may want to try to shiny hunt both a male and female Lechonk to get them both.
If you’re short on time or Poké Balls, you can pop an Incense, then quickly tap each Lechonk to check for shiny ones, running from any that aren’t shiny. Notably, any Lechonk you’ve already tapped will face where your player is standing, so that should help identify which ones you may have already checked.
If you evolve Lechonk into Oinkologne from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m. in your local time, it will learn the fast move Mud Slap.
If you miss out on evolving it during this period, you will likely be able to evolve it during a Community Day weekend event in December to get Mud Slap. If you don’t want to wait, you can use an Elite TM to get the move.
With its Community Day move, female Oinkologne actually does pretty decently in both Great League and Ultra League PvP. Set her up with Mud Slap, Body Slam, and Trailblaze to get the most success.
For raids and gyms (PvE content), forget about these pigs. They have no use here.
The following bonuses will be active during Lechonk Community Day:
- 1⁄4 hatch distance for eggs placed into Incubators during the event
- Doubled candy for catching Pokémon
- Doubled chance for level 31+ trainers to get XL candy from catching Pokémon
- Incense lasts three hours
- Lure Modules last 1 hour
- Lechonk special photobombs when taking snapshots
- One additional special trade
- Stardust cost halved for trading
That said, you should definitely put your eggs in Incubators and pop an Incense and try to nab as many Lechonk as you can.
If you can Mega Evolve Pidgeot, Kangaskhan, Lopunny, or Audino, you’ll score additional Lechonk Candy per catch.
This Lechonk Community Day also continues the “Lure Module Bonus” we’ve been seeing in other recent Community Days. From 2-9 p.m., Lechonk will appear at PokéStops with lures on them more often. This goes past when the other event bonuses end at 5 p.m., so if you miss this window, you can still hang out near a lured PokéStop to try to catch more shiny Lechonk.
