Oscar’s Wilde Punch Cocktail Recipe
Punch originated in India in the early 1600s and was brought back to Britain by East India Company sailors. It spread across Europe and became the most fashionable party drink of the 17th and 18th centuries — long before the cocktail era began. The name comes from the Hindi word panch, meaning “five,” referring to the original five ingredients used in early recipes.
A traditional punch is built around these five components:
strong, spirit (rum, brandy, whisky)
weak, water or tea
sour, citrus juice (lemon or lime)
sweet, sugar or syrup
spice, nutmeg, cinnamon, or other aromatics.
Today, it remains a staple at parties, weddings, and celebrations worldwide, both with and without alcohol.
Below is a version created by Wilde Irish Gin.
Wilde Irish Gin: A perfect blend for mixing into any cocktail or sipping on its own.
Crafted in the spirit of Oscar Wilde himself, Wilde Irish Gin is a gin that refuses to be ordinary. Distilled by Ireland’s first female master distiller, each small batch is carefully produced through two copper pot stills, yielding a spirit of uncommon character and precision.
At its heart is a masterful blend of eleven botanicals — among them native Irish mountain heather and bitter orange peel — that together create something truly distinctive. Citrus leads the way on the palate, followed by soft juniper and a delicate floral nose that lingers long after the last sip. True to its artisan roots, Wilde Irish Gin is additive free and non-chill filtered — preserving every trace of its natural botanical character. A perfect blend for mixing into any cocktail or sipping on its own.
