Slay the Spire 2 dev avoids putting dates on first roadmap

18 April 20263 Mins Read

Mega Crit shared the first roadmap for Slay the Spire 2’s post-launch updates, teasing features like Steam Workshop support, The Bestiary, and a new character. Unlike most roadmaps for regularly updated games, the developers aren’t promising specific release windows or dates for any of these additions.

This Slay the Spire 2 roadmap appears in text form in Mega Crit’s April 2026 “Neowsletter.” It lays out several features, systems, ongoing bug fixes, and content additions that the indie studio will make to the hit deckbuilding roguelike. While things like Steam Workshop support sound quite alluring, the roadmap doesn’t offer a specific timeline for these updates beyond stating that console ports, Steam achievements, trading cards, and a True Victory ending are “further off in the future.”

The lack of specificity in the roadmap is intentional, according to developer Casey Yano.

“It’s not what works for us,” Yano writes. “Mega Crit is a small team where each member understands their responsibilities, knows everyone else, and I try my best to ensure that we work at a healthy pace. We evaluate our tasks each week and work on what feels most impactful. It’s not the most organized method, but this allows spontaneous experimentation like the dialogues you have with the Ancients or the existence of a Room Full of Cheese. We won’t massively expand the size of the studio to finish the game faster. Exacting deadlines produce sloppy uninspired work and I don’t want Sloppy Spire 2, I want Slay the Spire 2.”

Nowadays, the update cadence expected from games, live service or not, is very demanding. Players not only demand a great experience at launch, but also anticipate studios will fix issues and add features indefinitely after release. As Slay the Spire 2 is also an early access title, Mega Crit has to build out the core game while ensuring each update also has a new feature that excites players.

Yano’s comments suggest Mega Crit isn’t willing to sacrifice quality or its indie spirit for a faster update schedule. Instead, it’s offering a vague idea of what’s coming to Slay the Spire 2 while leaving room for new ideas not currently etched into the roadmap. Yano recommends that players expecting more frequent updates should opt into the beta branch, although experimental changes there have already led to review-bombing.

You can see the current roadmap of planned Slay the Spire 2 updates below. The game is currently available through Steam Early Access, with the store page estimating that it will remain there for one to two years.
