Team Canada Olympians announced as 2026 Calgary Stampede parade marshals

3 June 20263 Mins Read

We’re inching closer to the Calgary Stampede every day, and you can already feel the shift around the city as summer events begin to line up and excitement starts to build for July.

One of the most anticipated parts of the opening day has now been revealed, with Team Canada Olympians Courtney Sarault and Mikaël Kingsbury announced as the 2026 parade marshals.

The pair will lead the iconic parade through downtown Calgary on Friday, July 3, 2026.

Canada’s elite athletes step into the spotlight

The year’s big announcement brings together two of the country’s most decorated winter athletes.

According to the Calgary Stampede, Sarault, a short-track speed skater from Moncton, N.B., recently made history at the 2026 Milano Cortina Olympic Winter Games as the first Canadian short-track skater to win four medals at a single Olympics.

Alongside her is Kingsbury, who is widely regarded as one of the greatest moguls skiers of all time. His career includes 100 World Cup wins, 29 Crystal Globes, nine World Championship titles, and multiple Olympic medals. According to the Calgary Stampede, he added to that legacy at the 2026 Winter Games, which further cemented his status as one of Canada’s most dominant athletes.

Together, they’ll be at the front of this year’s parade to officially get things started.

Calgary’s biggest street party to kick off Stampede season

If you’ve never attended the parade before, it’s one of those experiences that’s worth doing at least once. The parade takes over downtown with massive themed floats, marching bands, rodeo royals, cultural groups and performers from all over. Thousands of people line 8th Avenue early in the morning to watch it all unfold as it officially kicks off the Calgary Stampede.

Best of all, it’s completely free to attend, making it one of the most popular events of the entire Stampede season.

The parade will kick off with an early pre-show at 7:30 a.m., featuring around 30 entertaining performers and more than 1,500 performers designed to warm up the crowds before the main event. The official parade begins at 9 a.m., filling downtown with colour, music, and community spirit.

And once the parade wraps up, the celebration doesn’t stop there. After the event, you can head straight to Stampede Park and receive free admission between 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., making it an easy way to roll straight into more Stampede activities for the rest of the day.

With the parade marshals now announced, the countdown to Stampede season is officially on.
