The Edmonton Group Chat: What your friends are talking about this week (April 21)

21 April 20263 Mins Read

Welcome to Edmonton’s group chat, your weekly roundup of what’s trending, what’s new, and what’s actually worth talking about. Here, we can get the hottest events and news right to your phone and group chat without any issues. If your friends are talking about it, you’re going to find everything you need to know right in this article.

Without further ado, let’s get into what’s trending this week, as well as what you’re absolutely going to have to send to your group chat.

What’s trending, Edmonton?

Pick up a book this Indie Bookstore Day

Are you ready to celebrate Canadian Indie Bookstore Day? Landing exactly on April 25, this day celebrates the independent booksellers — not to mention the readers, writers, illustrators, and publishers who make this day possible. For this weekend, a whole bunch of bookstores are participating in the Edmonton Indie Bookstore Extravaganza, which gives out prizes and treats to those who come out.

Some of the ones participating are even on our best bookstore list within Edmonton. Check it out if you have a chance!

Celebrating Earth Day the right way

Earth Day is tomorrow, Wednesday, April 22, and we’re ready to make an impact.

Following the actual day, April 26 will see a community block party and market from Earth’s Refillery Coop. If you aren’t familiar with Earth’s Refillery Coop and Cafe, it’s Edmonton’s community-owned hub for not only reusing and refilling, but connecting as well. What better time to visit than Earth Day?

Get away this weekend to a unique Airbnb stay

The weather is finally clearing up, so it’s time to book a vacation nearby.

We’ve rounded up some unique stays and Airbnbs across Alberta that you can visit this spring in one of our stories. Whether you’re staying in a luxurious suite overlooking llamas or maybe you’re up in a comfy treehouse, you’re sure to have a good time. These are spread out across the province, so no matter where you go, there’ll be a stay you mesh with.

Ready for a new fitness and wellness centre coming this year?

Altea is an established fitness and wellness brand with multiple locations across Canada. It’s built for Canadians, by Canadians. This new location in Edmonton will be its first-ever Alberta location, and it’ll span over 125,000 square feet. Tough luck, however, as it’s only going to be opening this Winter 2026.

If you’re looking for a spa or wellness centre open now, there’s the Body Smoking Spa in Edmonton, which we previously covered.

Or maybe you’re ready for a crafty market coming into Edmonton

You’ll probably enjoy the Oddbird Art and Craft Fair more.

Oddbird Art and Craft Fair is Edmonton’s “newest and chirpiest” arts and crafts fair, having been established in 2024. This season, it has its spring fair coming up at the beginning of May. For this market, it’s crash landing right in Old Strathcona, taking over the heart of Edmonton. Mark your calendars, folks, you won’t want to miss this one.
