There’s a whimsical skating trail in Ontario winding through a snowy forest

3 February 20263 Mins Read

One of Canada’s most beloved cold-weather activities just got even more beautiful. Located at the top of Blue Mountain, Woodview Mountaintop Skating offers vast views along the Niagara Escarpment as you glide around a 1.1 km skating loop.

If you’ve been looking for a way to elevate date night (literally) or spend a day out of the house with friends, grab your layers and some skates.

The skating loop can be accessed via Scenic Caves Road, but as Blue Mountain Resort recommends, you’ll want to check the most up-to-date road conditions before you head out. The loop is open Monday to Friday from noon to 8 p.m. and Saturdays to Sundays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

First opened to the public in 2018, the trail takes you through a whimsical forest with snow-covered trees and rows of lights, creating a winter oasis whether the sun is up or down.

No skates? No problem. Woodview Mountaintop Skating has rentals available within the operating hours each day of the week. Sizing ranges from junior size 10 through to adult size 14, costing $12 per pair of skates for two hours.

To use the skating loop, you can purchase a single-use ticket for the attraction or check it out as part of your overnight stay at Blue Mountain Resort.

Single-use tickets start at $26.26 per person over the age of 13, or $20.20 per child under the age of 12.

Other winter attractions you can explore on-site include snowshoeing, the Ridgerunner Mountain Coaster, Hike N’ Tube snow tubing, Canopy Climb Net Adventure, and the Plunge Aquatic Centre with heated indoor and outdoor pools, hot tubs, slides, and an indoor water playground.

While it may be tempting to walk the trail, the area is for skating only, and it’s recommended that anyone hitting the ice use hockey skates, if possible.

Time to lace up, Ontario.
