This whimsical perfume-making experience takes place in stunning Alberta gardens

25 August 20263 Mins Read

The Fragrant Garden is an all-new experience at the University of Alberta Botanic Garden, where guests will be invited to create their own perfume to take home.

Visitors will have the chance to engage directly with fragrant source plants while creating their own scent based on this experience. Led by expert perfumers from Pura Botanicals, this journey in the botanic gardens will allow you to get hands-on with artisan French perfumery for a spectacular result.

What to know about The Fragrant Garden experience

When does The Fragrant Garden take place?

This event will be held on specific dates and times throughout August and September:

  • Sunday, Aug. 30: 10:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. and 1:15 to 3:15 p.m.
  • Sunday, Sept. 20: 10:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. and 1:15 to 3:15 p.m.
  • Sunday, Sept. 27: 10:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. and 1:15 to 3:15 p.m.

The upcoming Aug. 30 times are already sold out, and the September dates are getting low on spots. Due to the limited spaces in each class (15 spots each), organizers recommend booking early to avoid disappointment.

Where is the event held?

The Fragrant Garden is going to take place at the University of Alberta Botanic Garden located just west of Edmonton. According to the event itself, it will “be held in a variety of beautiful locations around the Garden.”

How much are tickets and what do they include?

Tickets are available now online for $150 plus tax per person.

These tickets include all supplies needed, instructions from two professional perfumers, a personalized organic oil-based perfume you can take home, a bottled beverage, and a fragrance formula card documenting your note selections.

With your ticket, you’ll also get day-long admission to the garden to explore more yourself.

What are some important things to know before attending?

Once you have your tickets, plan to arrive a minimum of 15 minutes early for your class. This ensures you’ll have adequate time to get from the Botanic Garden’s entrance to the class location on the grounds. Speaking of the class, as it’s held in multiple locations around the garden, the event suggests dressing for the weather (which may include sun hats and comfortable shoes).

If the weather is bad, no worries! This event will shift entirely indoors.

If needed, can I get a refund?

As stated by the event organizers, there are no refunds.

When: Various dates
Time: Various times
Where: 51227 AB-60, Parkland County, Alta.
Cost: $150 plus tax per person
