Three Latin American Cities Named Among the World’s Best for Nightlife 2026, Canada Reviews

1 September 20263 Mins Read

Forget what you heard about the dance floor being dead (Charli XCX, we’re looking at you). ‘s Best Cities for Nightlife with Intrepid Travel is here to prove otherwise. Three Latin American cities have muscled their way onto the list, proof that the region famous for dancing until sunrise isn’t going anywhere.

We quizzed more than 24,000 locals about what going out is really like where they live, asking about everything from clubbing and cocktail bars to affordability, safety and how easy it is to find community. A panel of ‘s city editors, culture experts and things to do specialists then weighed in, and to keep things globally fair, only the highest-scoring city in each country made the final cut. So which Latin American cities made the grade, and what’s actually drawing the crowds right now?

São Paulo

Brazil’s biggest metropolis earned a top-five spot for its burgeoning rooftop bar scene, where buildings in the city centre are being reborn as nightclubs and listening bars, with enviable rooftop settings offering sweeping views over the skyline. ’s São Paulo expert Lívia Breves points to Matiz, on the 11th floor of the Edifício Carlos Rusca building – a listening bar that uses vinyl DJs and a custom sound system. On weekend nights, the terrace fills up for sunset before the music even starts.

On the numbers, 74 percent of locals rated São Paulo’s nightlife highly for quality, 71 percent said a night out won’t break the bank, and ‘s expert panel gave the city’s after-dark scene a 70 percent approval rating.

Medellín

Right behind São Paulo, Colombia’s second city came sixth on the global list. Reggaeton rules here, blaring out of clubs like Dulcinea and newer arrivals Medallo Club and Medussa. You can embrace the quieter side too, as there’s a dozen or so speakeasies and listening bars that have popped up in recent years, including Mad Radio and the newly opened 55 dB Listening Bar.

Medellín scored higher than any other city on the list for nightlife quality, with 87 percent of locals rating it ‘good’ or ‘amazing,’ and 71 percent named clubbing as the city’s standout after-dark offering.

Mexico City

Rounding out the list, and Mexico’s sole representative, is CDMX, a city where nightlife now stretches well beyond the dance floor. 2026 has brought a wave of wine bars pairing high-fidelity sound with a glass in hand. Editor-in-chief of Mexico Mauricio Nava recommends Somma, Faba and Natas, alongside bars serving up their own spins on the negroni and spritz. La Roma and Juárez remain the epicentre for the city’s most avant-garde openings, while Polanco has embraced themed bars built for singing along, and the LGBTQ+ scene continues to thrive at spots like Penthouse and Sirenito.

Locals rated Mexico City strongly across the board. Seventy-one percent said nightlife there is ‘good’ or ‘amazing,’ 69 percent said it’s easy to find community and 62 percent backed the clubbing scene specifically.
