Trevor A. Toussaint, Hollyoaks’ Walter Deveraux, Dead at 65

Trevor A Toussaint, best known for his role as Walter Deveraux on the Channel 4 soap opera Hollyoaks, has died at age 65.

The news was confirmed by Kéllé Bryan, who portrayed Martine Deveraux, Toussaint’s on-screen daughter, in an Instagram post shared on January 10, 2026.

“Been finding it hard to find the words to pay tribute to this man @trevoratoussaint,” Bryan wrote. “Gone, but has left such an imprint on my heart.”

Bryan also revealed that she represented Toussaint professionally for more than two decades, noting that she had served as his agent for the past 20 years.

In a longer tribute Bryan reflected on Toussaint’s impact both on and off screen, “He played @jacqui_boats and I’s father in @hollyoaksofficial which was a dream to be part of the legacy of the first black family on the show. Trevor started acting in the 70’s a time when black actors were predominantly cast as criminals. He wore his waist length dreds with pride for over 10 year’s fighting against every stereotype. Once asked to cut them in order to book a lucrative role . He forthrightly said “no”. He broke many boundaries and made a pathway for others. RIP Tt “” Blessings and protection. 🤍🙏🏾 my thoughts and prayers.”

Following Bryan’s announcement, several of Toussaint’s Hollyoaks co-stars shared their own tributes in the comments.

Nikki Sanderson, who portrayed Maxine Minniver, wrote, “Such sad news, Trevor was a lovely man who took time to talk with everyone he met, he was a gentleman. He was always so kind with me. Sending lots of love to you and all of his family and friends ♥️ RIP xxx.”

Rachel Adedeji, who portrayed Toussaint’s on-screen granddaughter Lisa Loveday, wrote, “So sorry! This is heartbreaking news. Rest in peace Trevor x”

Richard Blackwood, who portrayed Toussaint’s son-in-law Felix, wrote, “My very first scene was with T and he made me bring my A game! We were friends from that day on and off screen! You will be missed big bro RIP sir ❤️❤️”

Toussaint appeared on Hollyoaks from 2018 to 2002, portraying Walter Deveraux in 151 episodes. His character later exited the series to live with his daughter Simone in Jamaica.

Hollyoaks currently streams Monday-Wednesday in the United States on the series official YouTube channel.
