Two heartwarming musicals will debut under the stars at Stanley Park this summer

9 April 20264 Mins Read

This summer, two beloved musicals known for their feel-good music and inspiring storylines take the stage at Vancouver’s Malkin Bowl. Theatre Under the Stars is officially back for its 86th year of live theatre and moonlight magic, and this season is going to be bursting with soul.

Dating all the way back to 1940, the iconic summertime tradition has been transforming Stanley Park’s outdoor venue into a special evening stage, and it looks like this year will be no different.

“As we celebrate our 86th year under the stars, we couldn’t be more thrilled to bring two heartwarming Broadway musicals to Vancouver audiences,” says Kevin Woo, TUTS general manager. “This summer, we’re sharing the stories of two fearless trailblazers who refuse to be silenced—one finding her voice in the most unexpected of places, the other longing to be part of a world beyond her own.”

Drumroll, please… the 2026 instalment of TUTS features Sister Act and Disney’s The Little Mermaid!

Audiences are invited to raise their voices, laugh, and sing along to both shows’ iconic music.

Two heartwarming Broadway musicals

Based on the 1992 hit film starring Whoopi Goldberg, Sister Act follows aspiring disco diva Deloris Van Cartier, who is rushed into witness protection at a nearby convent after witnessing a crime. Now under the guise of “Sister Mary Clarence,” Deloris must take charge of the convent choir and convince them to let their inner light shine.

Directed and choreographed by Peter Jorgensen (director of TUTS’ Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and actor in Legally Blonde The Musical), the dazzling production will feature music by renowned TUTS Music Director Sena Bayntun, who returns for his fourth year in a row.

Disney’s The Little Mermaid is, of course, based on the classic animated film, bringing the underwater world of Ariel the mermaid to life. Dreaming of life above the sea, Ariel strikes a risky bargain with Ursula, a sea witch who promises her the chance to be human at the cost of her beautiful singing voice.

This production will be directed and choreographed by Nicol Spinola, who returns to TUTS for the first time since choreographing TUTS’ 2022 production of Something Rotten!

Spinola will be joined by Music Director Brent Hughes, who previously music directed Cinderella and Something Rotten!

How much are tickets?

Currently, two-show subscription packs are on sale for $99 per adult (and $69 for youth aged 5 to 12) until May 7, 2026, so now is the perfect time to secure your spot if you’re interested in seeing both shows!

These premium tickets are available online and include access to both productions, souvenir programs, and exchange insurance for both nights.

Early bird tickets go on sale on May 19, 2026, and range from $35 to $59 each, depending on seating.

Finally, GA tickets will be available starting June 21, 2026, for $35 to $69 per person.

Both productions will run from July 3 to Aug. 22, 2026, with opening nights on July 7 and 8, respectively.

Note that the first couple of days (July 3 to 6, 2026) will be preview shows.

All Monday performances start at 7 p.m., while shows from Tuesday to Sunday commence at 8 p.m.

So mark your calendars and get excited, Vancouver. Theatre Under the Stars is a popular summer tradition for a reason!
