Walmart Canada to open two new Ontario locations and here’s where

9 July 20263 Mins Read

Walmart Canada has announced it will open two new locations in Ontario, one of them being a takeover of a former Hudson’s Bay location. Here’s everything you need to know.

According to Walmart Canada, the two new locations will be in Ottawa and Brampton, slated to open sometime in 2027. Both superstores will become anchor tenants, bringing shoppers with better access to their lineup of general merchandise and groceries.

What to know about the new Ottawa location

Now this location will put to use the former, now vacant Hudson’s Bay space at Place d’Orléans. In a press release, the retailer detailed that it will be a two-level supercentre with:

  • A full grocery assortment of fresh produce, chicken, beef, pork and seafood, deli foods, baked goods, dairy products, frozen foods and dry grocery items
  • Walmart’s full general merchandise, including fashion, home goods, electronics, health and wellness, seasonal items and more
  • A Walmart Pharmacy

“The opening of Walmart at Place d’Orléans represents a significant milestone for the centre,” said Patrick Sullivan, president and chief operating officer of Primaris REIT, owner of Place d’Orléans.

“At 115,500 square feet, Walmart brings a compelling, high-quality retail offering that meaningfully enhances the property’s merchandising mix. Walmart is a proven traffic driver, and we expect its presence to materially increase footfall and create incremental opportunities for our existing retailers, while also supporting continued tenant demand and future merchandising enhancements across the centre.”

What to know about the new Brampton location

As for the upcoming store in Brampton, the new Walmart Supercentre will be located in Bramalea City Centre, at 25 Peel Centre Dr.

It will be about 140,000 square feet and will feature the same offerings as the Ottawa location.

“We’ve been a part of the Brampton community since 1994, and we’re excited to bring this new supercentre – our sixth in the city – to Bramalea City Centre,” said Shawn Fujiki, senior director of real estate at Walmart Canada. “We’re opening this new supercentre as part of our $6.5-billion investment in Canada announced last year, which will help to bring our everyday low prices to even more customers across the country.”

Part of a long investment

Back in 2025, Walmart Canada first announced the opening of a few more locations across Ontario. This was part of the mega-retailer’s aforementioned $6.5-billion investment in the Canadian market.

Both Ontario and Alberta were part of the plan, with an announced total of five locations opening in 2027. These are two of those openings.

“We’re incredibly proud of how we’ve continued to invest in our people to help them grow with us as we better serve Canadians as a people-led, omnichannel retailer,” said AnnMarie Mercer, chief people officer of Walmart Canada, back in January 2025.

“These investments are ongoing and an important part of how we continue to attract and retain our amazing associates to build the workforce of the future.”

Needless to say, we’re excited to see the new Walmart locations come to life.
