It’s time to settle one of Toronto’s most passionately debated food questions: who actually makes the best Jamaican beef patty near the subway?
Whether you grab yours inside a station or make a quick stop just steps from the turnstile, Toronto’s connection to the patty runs deep. That’s why Streets of Toronto is joining forces with the TTC to find the city’s ultimate Jamaican patty.
To keep things legit, every contender has to make its own patties in-house — no resellers — and be located inside a TTC subway station or within a couple of minutes’ walk. We’ve pulled together six spots to kick off the competition: Caribbean Queen of Patties, Kingston 12 Patty Shop, Randy’s Patties, Roywoods Patty, Scotty Bons Caribbean Grill and Tinnel’s West Indian Take-Out.
Think we missed a spot? Cast your vote for one of our nominees or submit another shop for consideration. Write-in nominations aren’t automatically added to the competition, but they could help our judges find another contender worth tasting. As a bonus, you can also leave your name and email for a chance to win a Streets of Toronto T-shirt.
An elite panel — featuring chef Lonie Murdock of Miss Likklemore’s, chef Dadrian Coke of Chubby’s Jamaican Kitchen, Toronto creator Fred B.K. and an official TTC representative — will blind taste-test the finalists. The showdown takes place live on Sept. 21 at Summerhill Station, hosted by Streets of Toronto’s social media director.
