You can walk across a giant floating boardwalk on this beautiful Muskoka trail

29 May 20263 Mins Read

Hunters Bay Trail is one of those outdoor experiences unlike any other in the Muskokas. With stunning riverside views and a 500 metre floating wooden boardwalk, here’s why a trip to this adventure is a must.

Located right in Huntsville, Ont., this trail is said to be one of the most amazing hikes in the whole area. And that says something.

According to Muskoka Tourism, the Hunters Bay Trail is a walking, running and cycling trail adventure that spans 3.6 km in length.

It’s considered an easy-to-moderate difficulty trail that is great for walking, running, cycling, and swimming too — when the weather is right, of course.

Where does the trail start?

Your walking journey begins at the Centre Street bridge near Uponor and winds along the Muskoka River, under the railway trestle, through the Avery Beach Park and onto the waters of Hunter’s Bay.

Although it’s all picture-worthy, the floating boardwalk is something worth taking your camera out for.

“The original trail had a 137m stretch of floating boardwalk that is a popular place to swim and fish,” shares Muskoka Tourism. “With a new addition to the trail, there is now over 500m of floating boardwalk to walk, cycle or run.”

There’s no doubt that the floating boardwalk is the main attraction of the trail. It’s also part of The Great Trail, aka Trans Canada Trail. It is the world’s longest network of multi-use recreational trails that extends from BC to Newfoundland and north to the Yukon and Northwest Territories.

This trail network connects 24,000 km of trails and 13 provinces and territories. It is described as a “marvel of Canada’s vast landscapes,” according to Discover Muskoka.

There’s so much to see and experience in this beautiful part of Ontario, you’ll love every minute of this season!

Where: Main Street West (off Highway 11), Huntsville, Ont.
