From forested cabins and charming cottages to stays with hot tubs and saunas, you’ll find plenty of options if you want to get away without venturing too far from home.

The Shanti Yurt is an authentic Mongolian yurt that is tucked into 2.5 acres of forest in Bragg Creek, with space for up to four guests and a private hot tub outside. Inside, the yurt has a queen bed, a small kitchen, and a wood stove to keep things warm when temperatures drop.
There are also hiking trails and plenty of lakes nearby, including West Bragg Creek and Elbow Falls, making this a good pick if you want to spend most of your time outdoors.

Expanse Cottages in Nordegg, Alta, is home to six hand-built cabins tucked into the forest at the edge of the Bighorn region. Four have wood-burning stoves, private firepits, and barbecues, while the other two have propane fireplaces, panoramic decks, and outdoor fire tables. The property specifically notes autumn as its favourite season, with fall colours, cooler temperatures, and darker skies making it a pretty beautiful time to stay.

Located about 20 kilometres west of Rocky Mountain House, Ride the Wind Ranch is home to two cozy cabins overlooking a horse pasture, a forest, and the Rocky Mountains in the distance. Each cabin has a private bathroom, a covered porch, and its own campfire site. There’s no wifi on the ranch, so you can spend your time petting the ranch’s horses, visiting the bunnies, sitting around the campfire or heading out to the nearby Crimson Lake Provincial Park.

Located in the Kananaskis Village, about an hour west of Calgary, this adults-only retreat has two types of micro-cabins: Skybox and SkyGlass. The SkyGlass cabins are especially striking, with mirrored floor-to-ceiling windows that offer panoramic mountain views from inside.
Both cabins come with king-size beds, fully equipped kitchens, and spa-inspired bathrooms with heated floors. The property also has a communal sauna and cold plunge, plus hiking trails and outdoor fire pits.

The Crossing at Ghost River is a boutique country inn west of Cochrane, set on 145 acres along the Ghost River. Its rooms feature antique furnishings and private ensuites, while the grounds offer forest trails and riverside spots with outdoor firepits. Located between Calgary and Canmore, this off-grid straw-bale cabin sits on a 40-acre working ranch surrounded by prairies. The one-bedroom cabin sleeps up to four people and has a wood stove, a fully stocked kitchen, a fire pit, and valley views. There’s no electricity or indoor bathroom, so this one is definitely on the rustic side, but it adds to the whole experience.
While you’re there, you can explore the property, watch for wildlife or book a farm tour to meet the animals.

Glamp Good is an off-grid retreat near Winfield, Alta., where you can sleep in a geodome or A-frame cabin, surrounded by 160 acres of boreal forest. Beyond the stays themselves, there’s a Nordic sauna on the property and a floating sauna on the nearby Twin Lake.
The geodomes have large windows that let you take in the surrounding forest from bed, with some also featuring wood-burning stoves and private outdoor spaces.

If you’ve ever wanted to spend a night inside your favourite fairytale, Charmed Resorts has made that possible.
