The big winner at 2024’s Academy Awards was Anora, starring newly minted winner Mikey Madison.
Two years later, the American actress’ big movie is The Social Reckoning, which is currently playing in theaters (though not earning a whole lot, per Deadline), while her Anora co-star Yura Borisov (who was nominated for their 2024 hit) is now starring in an entirely different tech-centric film.
The Social Reckoning is, of course, a follow-up to the Aaron Sorkin-penned The Social Network, which co-starred Andrew Garfield as Eduardo Saverin, the co-founder of Facebook.
Garfield, 43, now portrays a different real-life techie alongside Borisov, 33, in Artificial, which recently had its world premiere at the New York Film Festival to rave reviews and just screened at the London Film Festival as well.
It was across the pond on Sunday, October 11 where Garfield, 43, opened up about his portrayal of OpenAI CEO Sam Altman in renowned director Luca Guadagnino‘s new biographical film — and the Oscar buzz that both the project and Garfield are now receiving.
“As I’m getting older, I’m starting to understand that the things outside of ourselves, we just have no control over. And the only consistent thing for me is trying to make work that I feel proud of,” he told Variety on Sunday. “I feel really, really proud of this film… It was a really, really intense shoot. And then I’m so flattered that anyone is going to see this film in the first place, let alone talk so nicely about it. That’s my genuine response. I try and keep it in that perspective.”
The Tick, Tick… Boom! actor also weighed in on the timeliness of Artificial, which will be released on Christmas Day.
“It’s here, it’s now. And the timing couldn’t be more exciting and important, I think, because it’s about the figures that are in the news right now,” he told Variety. “Dario Amodei, Sam Altman, [Elon Musk] and all the major players that are kind of governing and holding the reins of this new technology, or occasionally losing the reins of this new technology.”
