2024’s Most Inventive Slasher Movie Officially Sets Sequel Release Date

11 October 20263 Mins Read

Horror fans are currently in the midst of Spooky Season, but there are plenty of slasher scares still on tap for the winter. That includes the highly anticipated sequel to 2024’s In A Violent Nature, the inventive microbudget slasher movie that puts a twist on the supernatural serial killer formula.

On Saturday, at New York Comic Con, horror streaming service Shudder announced the release date of In A Violent Nature: Part 2, which will continue the story of urban legend Johnny’s killing spree.

Shudder and Independent Film Company officially revealed at NYCC that In A Violent Nature: Part 2 will arrive exclusively in theaters on Feb. 12, 2027.

Ry Barrett, who returns as the masked killer Johnny, announced the date on Saturday. The announcement came shortly after In A Violent Nature: Part 2’s world premiere at Fantastic Fest in September.

What is In A Violent Nature: Part 2 about?

According to an official synopsis, In A Violent Nature: Part 2 picks up immediately after the events of the first film, with new victims for Johnny to dispatch and a deeper dive into the killer’s lore. “Johnny’s violent rampage leads him to a summer camp just as a young, outcast camper is forced to spend the night with his counselor sister and her friends at their annual end-of-season party,” the film’s description reads. IFC and Shudder promise the film is “pushing the possibilities of extreme kills even further” with “uncompromising gore and unforgettable kills.” Johnny’s signature murder weapon is a rusty metal hook attached to a large chain.

The original film, released in 2024, introduces a clever twist on the slasher genre: It’s told from the perspective of its undead villain. “Awakened by some careless teens, local urban legend Johnny (Ry Barrett) proceeds to chase and murder them across the wooded American back country,” Polygon entertainment editor Jake Kleinman wrote in a recommendation of In A Violent Nature. “Johnny never speaks, and large stretches of the movie simply track his slow movement through the forest in what feels like a mix between watching someone else play a video game and listening to ASMR. It’s weirdly relaxing.”

In A Violent Nature: Part 2 is co-directed by Nate Wilson and Chris Nash, who wrote the script.

Horror fans can watch the original In A Violent Nature now via Hulu and Disney Plus, where the film is currently streaming.
